...by a cat. A few days ago it greeted me at the door looking forlorn and hungry. I gave it a small bowl of milk and it disappeared for a while. A couple days later it was sitting on my garbage can staring at the window in the door and I could almost feel it's feline mind calling, demanding the door to open. Sure enough it did and I put another bowl of milk out. Today I bought some kitty kibble. Getting out of the car when I got home the cat started doing the moving weave and inevitably it gets kicked several tjimes while I try to unload the car and walk stuff into the house. It's now sitting on the cab of the truck paws curled under, eyes slitted, content after another bowl of milk and one of kibble, waiting for it's new toy to open the door to warmth again. Thanks Sekh!

Yep.....you fell for it. "Give a mouse a cookie....." "Give a cat a bowl of milk....." Now you are doomed to a million kitty tracks on the hood, and daily "slide" marks going down the front windshield. And maybe a spray or two.

Yeah and until spring I've got to worry every time I start the engine that it's not huddling around the block - I killed a squirrel that way once.

That can be messy.....
I fired up an old truck that had been setting for awhile, and some sparrows had nested under the hood.
The kitty had a good breakfast.....shredded tweet.

There is an obvious solution. Open the door and let the kitty in. You know you will and you know you want to. The alternative is unthinkable. You're welcome.

A hermit needs a cat. Our last four have been orphans/abandoned, and we couldn't be happier. (And we're not even hermits.) Let the critter inside. Oh, and milk's not all that good for cats, according to our vet--gives 'em diarrhea, which probably wouldn't make a transitional period all that pleasant.

Simba IS a pretty good name.
How about it folks? Simba, the Soundhole Cat, who lives with Mnhermit. Really, it's perfect. The job is going begging.

Dennis, I wish you the best, but I view getting adopted by a cat as on a par with marrying a virus.

Doug - Actually I'm trying to find out the Swahili for dog, it's only fair having had a dog named Simba to have a cat named ?? (dog). Russell - Thanks for the tip on the milk - no more - I'll just give it some lukewarm water with the kibble. Was that Guinness, I thought it was the leavings from the spittoon. I'm going to check at the local country store and my neighbor to make sure I'm not replacing another of the cats toys/possessions before letting it have the run of my house, but I'm also concerned. It looks like a house cat, maybe a young adolescent, but I imagine I'll need to run it by a vet - in the end I'll probably spend more on the cat's medical care than I do on my own.

Dennis,
It's cheaper to feed the birds than to feed a cat.
Put up some bird feeders. Place a couple straw bales by one of the feeders and arrange it into a blind for the cat. Free food for the cat and hours of free entertainment for you.
