I'm not changing my mind, yet, I think the stimulus plan is what we all appear to think it is.
But to play the other side for awhile,
If it were just Bush or the Democrats advocating the stimulus package, I could easily dismiss it as tomfoolery and high chicanery. But it isn’t just the politicals lined up on this one. Bernanke supports it, and he seems to be a good and capable Fed. And all the economists I heard on NPR also seemed to be on board.
(which creates a new worry, that the whole idea of an economy based on the endless consumption of imported knick-knacks is so facked up that there really isn’t anything smart or useful to be done. So smoke and mirrors is our best option. (close your eyes and flap your arms really fast, children) But, why dwell in such negativity. Outside of my worries, things do seem to be chugging along, which transitions me to ...)
OK, so Bernanke and a whole bunch of economists seem to think this stimulus package is what is needed. Why do they think that. Near as I could figger it, well..., it is time for an analogy...
Our economy is a car. We are all in the car and we have to get somewhere. But there is some trouble. The engine is sputtering and missing. It sounds like it could conk out on us. It is an old car with issues, and if it stops, well, it can take a long time to get it started again. Sometimes up to half a day.
So we really don’t want the engine to quit because if the car sits for half a day before we get it started again, well, we will never be able to make up the lost time and we will get to wherever it is we are going real late.
But, we have some experience with this old car. The engine has sputtered and missed before. And the last couple times it did, squirting a little gas in the carburetor got it fired up again and kept it running. So, maybe it will work again. It worked last time.
We know the engine should be overhauled, but that’s a lot of work, and we don’t even know where all pieces are supposed to go or what tools we should use. Besides, we don’t have the time right now. We are on a trip and we have to get somewhere. We can do it later, maybe. Right now, we just know we can’t let the darn thing die here in the middle of nowhere. So we are going to spray a little gas in the carb and hope it fires up enough to at least get us to the next town. It worked before. One shot of gas, and it ran well for a week. With any luck...,
Get the siphon out, we will have to suck some gas from the tank. Don’t spill..., ack..., what the ..., crap!! George you damn fool, can’t you even suck right?
