We had representatives from the Lane County Country and Bluegrass Festival committee come hear the trio last May (of '7) and thought we had a good shot at getting booked for this year's event. Then in July, I heard that it may not even happen.
Last week, I received a flyer in the mail that it was happening, all booked up already, but had included an open mic session. Turned out they had a change of folks on the committee, the ones that heard up were gone. They were all very apologetic after I emailed them about thinking we were going to be booked for this year.
Norman & Clark will be doing a short set during the open mic, so the new folks can hear us.....appears the trio is history except for occasional local gigs. It's not a paid gig, but it will be fun, get some more exposure, and perhaps lock us in for next year.

Barb and I had a similar thing happen a couple years ago. We played a wonderful art fair in southern Wisconsin and the audiences just LOVED us (well, they mostly loved Barb, I reckon), and the organizers implored us to return the next year. So we saved the date and about a month before the next year's fest was to happen, I contacted the event chairman for particulars and found out that oh, sorry, we decided to use only local musicians this year. WELL, THANKS FOR TELLING US AFTER WE SAVED A PRIMO WEEKEND FOR YOU FOR A FREAKING YEAR.

Yep.....it's annoying when it happens, but what can you do? Better to just put on a smile, hop up onstage and pick some good stuff. And make them regret the HELL out of not booking you to begin with.
