Since I still have electricity, I would like to start the daily. The storm was not as bad as predicted by the NWS but was pretty much what a local weather guy said. We have our neighbors (H,W,C,D) with us overnight. It has been a long weekend....waiting for Mr.G. Hopefully, he won't be with us much longer.

I thought landfall was supposed to be mid-day today?

'Bout 9am for the eyewall ashore they're saying, below Houma LA.
Thankfully the girth of Gustav got knocked own in size when his core started crashing the coast. We'll get a good blow and a gooder rain. I'm glad the worst will be over by nightfall this evening. A strong hurricane in the black of night with no power is not my idea of fun & relaxation on the Gulf coast.

good to hear from you guys in LA. Indeed.
It's crisp and beautiful here. Gustav must have blown the sun north. Predicting a hot sunny day. We're off to the north peninsula to explore with some friends.
Have great days.

Morning, all. It's still dark here.
I remember going through a major hurricane as a kid. Best of luck to those in the path.
Diane and I will collaborate on sawing up a big chunk of pecan that came down as a result of Thursday's storm. They now say the winds reached 100 mph. Then I get to go to the office. Tomorrow, the presentation of evidence in a long jury trial I've been in concludes, so we have to settle jury instructions. This isn't my ideal holiday agenda but trials are like that. I'm not complaining.
Have a good day.

I'm doing something very wrong... Tim

Morning - good to hear from all those in the path of Gustav and that you're all safe. Hope it stays that way.

"Excuse me? You have a wife who will help you cut up a chunk of fallen tree?"
She's sawing at the moment because I'm bushed. The part of the pecan that had broken was five to six inches in circumference at the base. It hadn't broken cleanly and it was still connected, thirty feet up. With a ladder and an extension saw I eventually managed to saw it loose.
Then it lodged in other branches. I had to keep sawing off parts of it at the bottom until I could get enough leverage to work it free. The muscles used for sawing are probably the weakest part of my body.
Diane's sawing up the chunks. She never shrinks from the gritty stuff. It's quite a bit of good pecan wood. Too bad I'm not a woodworker.
Blah blah blah....

Good Morning
Back to the shop for a while today. Yesterday I glued up stock, today I will square and cut the blanks to size. If I get all the blanks the same exact size milling the slot for the tuner button becomes much easier. To me, this is the fun stuff, I get to make something that I have designed.

Sounds like it's not as bad as everyone thought. Hope it says that way.
Grey day today, maybe sunny later. Getting fish for the aquarium - first time ever our kids have had pets - if you call fish pets.

For which you're getting 3 and 1/2 time pay I hope. Sunny and a little cooler here. Hope no one gets severally Gustov'd. I'm hoping Hanna is a mild but extremely wet tropical storm that camps on our heads for 2-3 days. Some of the local lakes are down almost 30 feet. Don

For which you're getting 3 and 1/2 time pay I hope. Don I work 5 hours and 20 minutes and get paid for an 8-hour shift. Of course, I have to work at night and there won't be any cafeteria service, but that's all just part and parcel of producing a "beloved" newspaper, which is its own reward.
