It wasn't as bad as the Weather Service said but it is worse than I expected. I am with you via the combination of a Honda generator and redneck ingenuity. I ran a 220 power cable from the generator into the outside breaker for our central air and backed some juice into the house. It will run everything except the drier and central air. A pine tree almost got the wife's car and several trees came down in my neighbors yard- one on his mobile home. Hopefully it didn't damage his home too much. Breaking news on the local channels is that a levee is about to give in Braithwaite. I just got power back to the house so I don't know the damage in any other area. Many of my neighbors didn't even lose power but we always do because our feed goes through a branch. That's it for now. I'm pretty sure Evan got it worse as I think the center of the storm went over Baton Rouge.

Good to hear from you. Is Braithewaite closeby?

Could you give that wind and rain a westward push? Glad to hear your holding up well down there.

It is down in St.Benard Parish; well away from us. It is news because so far the levees have held as far as I know (but I've been without power all day).

Little Honda Generator
I'm gonna wake you up early 'cause I'm gonna take a walk with you. We're goin' down to the basement, I'll tell you what we're gonna do. Put on a ragged sweatshirt, I'll take it out of the dryer for you.
Six volts, it's all right Ten volts, there's our lights Twelve volts, hang on tight Voltage ... it's all right.
It's not a big power maker, Just a groovy little backup deal It's more fun than a treadmill Or a hamster spinning in a wheel We'll use it late in the night To make Hot Pockets for our meal!

It's good to hear you're all ok, Alan. Still sounds like quite the storm, though, that we shouldn't downplay because it wasn't as bad as expected. A storm that blows down trees is bad, period. Again, good to hear you're ok. Heard from Jerry yet?

I'm sure Jerry is fine there are no trees around his house to do any damage. He is probably sitting on his porch watching it rain as we speak.

Glad you are doing OK Alan but I have to make a
Major Safety Announcement
Back feeding 220 power into your house using "redneck ingenuity" also feeds 220 into the lines coming into your house which could be a fatal hazard for some lineman trying to fix your power. Lacking a UL listed generator transfer switch (at least a grand) do the 'redneck disconnect' and remove your power meter. That will keep your local juice off of the main line.

I'm checking in. I lost one hickory tree and 3 dead dogwoods came down. The wind is still pretty strong right now. The storm was stronger than I thought it would be.
I would think that both ChicagoBob and Evan are getting hit pretty hard.
