I clicked on it about a week ago and donated $77 to make it ad free, but I think I screwed up, it's only good for a calendar month. Anyone know the details of "how it works"? I'll do it again, but want to get it right this time.

Bob, I am the one that has to go in and apply the credits. I just applied some for the Month of November. It does show where your contribution is in the forum bank. I appreciate it, and I am sure most others here do as well.
Here's what Doug and I were talking about last night, and let me know how y'all feel:
The Google-Ads are rather non-intrusive, and at times, humorous. Right now, it costs us about $21 a month to keep the board free of the aforementioned non-intrusive ads. I mean, it'sn ot like they are pop-up ads blasting us out, but just a small banner with text ads on it.
Would folks be more inclined to apply that $21 a month and have our own web site, as we discussed before? A site that featured artist profiles, news links, audio and multimedia downloads, technical articles and resources, and of course, the forum? For about $75 PER YEAR, we could have the domain and a lot -- I mean A LOT -- of storage and bandwidth, and of course, I would gladly do the maintenance and design of it.
Scott and I have talked before about it, and it was one of our visions for the place down the road, and I wonder if "down the road" has gotten a little closer now.
Right now we have 154 credits in the forum bank, which would be good for about 7 months of Ad-Free viewing.

The ads are a non-issue, so long as they are not up-poppy.

I agree with Bill. I'll contribute to the effort if it goes forward (or even if it doesn't).

Another in agreement with the majority here. I don't mind the ads and thanks to Cribbs and the rest who make this website happen.

I would vote for soundholecafe.com as my choice.
...and it follows that I think we should register our own domain and get all that other stuff. If we did that, forumites could upload their photos directly instead of having to go through some other server. There's nothing quite like a pile of server space, is there?
Regarding the ads - they could go anytime, charming as they can be. It's not like there aren't plenty of ads everywhere else on the planet.

Yes, forumites could upload pictures, MP3's, and videos to this site as opposed to another image hosting joint. Also, I believe folks could have custom email addresses -- sekhmet@soundholecafe.com or something like that.

Let's do the domain, with all the cool whistles and bells, bandwidth, no-host bar, gaming tables, insurance benefits, Soundhole private jet...

Doug - I thought you could have gaming tables just not ones where money actually changed hands.
(Don't mind me I'm just so close to 50 posts I'm trying to get out of 'newbie' status :-))

I just gotta ask tequilabob one thing - why $77? not an even 100 or 50 but, 77? C'mon, give it up? btw, regarding ads; as long as they aren't intrusive, I don't care. The domain thing sounds cool. If I get out of newbie status I'll have to pony up too, I suppose.

I'm not sure what "our own website" looks like. But I see lots of possibilities. Swapping music and links and stuff.
And yeah those ads at the top of the page aren't very annoying.
So party on, Garth... I mean Cribbs.
