Someday, when I’m bored, and I feel like similarly boring the hell out of the handful of people here who would suffer reading it, I might post a book chapter explaining how a socially liberal classical and fingerstyle guitar guy became such a staunch 2A supporter. Hint: it’s the polar opposite of "white supremacy..." I'd read it.

It cannot be the case that it evolved like "reach out" because what you are describing is something that is happening in real time -- and happening over and over again on every issue. I'd also draw another distinction. The clips demonstrated an automatic association between firearms enthusiasts/Second Amendment supporters and "white supremacists". In that sense, there is a clear ideological component not found in routine word usage evolution.

There's long been a low-intensity call to re-draw the map and make Nebraska's panhandle part of Wyoming.
I've never really dug into that. I know when I read stories about it, there was this general sense that this was something Nebraska wouldn't like. Not sure what difference it makes to anyone, actually, other than the people in the panhandle. They are certainly closer to Cheyenne than Lincoln.

Brilliant guy.
I wonder what the memorial will be like. Will they Graham Chapman it, or play it straight?

I can't say I go there often enough to have a proper standard order, but I agree enthusiastically with their fish sandwiches! They are in a world of their own compared to the standard fast food version. Really, no comparison. Nom nom.

On a related note, the Culvers in Carroll is one of my regular stops on the way to Vinton.
Very good coffee. Very clean restrooms.
A couple of trips ago, as I was coming out, a couple of older ladies were coming in. They noticed my bike, and my riding gear, and the next thing you know these two sweet grandmothers from Iowa were telling me veiled stories of trips to Sturgis back in the 60's, which it seemed included a fair amount of debauchery.

Jeff, what the hell? You buy "Benny's" view that the evil media "were cheering for a bloodbath" and then post a clip of few-second clips with no context whatsoever to support that? Are you serious? You, such a smart man? I'm astounded. I really am. I wish there was a way to link videos from Twitter without the preceding commentary. I don't know who "Benny" is and while I understand his perspective, I think he over-stated it. His use of the term "establishment media" was over broad, given that 100% of those clips came from exactly two networks. I just thought the video was funny. You have all these talking heads on MSNBC and CNN, and they are not only saying substantially the same thing, they are saying substantially the same thing using substantially the same words and phrases. I thought that video was relevant precisely because their language, and more particularly their well practiced sense of seriousness in the delivery of that language, gave me a chuckle. The story I frequently want to see but never do is one that explains how that comes about. But I don't see how any of that is relevant to the Strib or you personally. Certainly didn't mean it as an insult to either.

Took Sunnie down to the Omaha Gun Club. Sent 50 .223 rounds down range through an AR-15. Good times. My training buddies and mentors always look at me like I just unzipped my skin to expose a space alien when they find out that I’ve never owned an AR-pattern rifle. Truth be told, that was the very first time I've ever shot an AR-15 ish myself. The one the range rented me was some model Springfield Armory, and it shot like butter. Very nice action. Don't know if the trigger was factory or if someone had worked it over, but it was beautifully crisp with virtually no creep. We shot on the 25 yard range. I was pretty pleased. My first group of 20 was within three inches or so, which I deem "not bad" for freehanding an unfamiliar weapon with no sling and cheapo bulk ammo.

If your third favorite thing were an outdoor grill, you'd avoid this whole problem. It was five degrees out yesterday evening. I was out on the deck, grilling. Nom, nom, nom.

Take two. Distribution of result is not bias. A choice is not bias. That used to be part of our shared consensus, but it's over. Look at what's going on in Washington state right now. The keyword to watch for is "equity".

... We have all sorts of employment law, that largely came from the Left, built around the principle that if a company finds itself with unequal representation among its employees, that fact alone is prima facie evidence that illegal bias exists... Glass houses and stones... You and John... You misunderstand my point. I don't know if you misunderstand John's. The two of us aren't saying the same thing.

Jeff: "If." And you need to keep up with fashion--Foucault is so last-decade. You mean, like, three weeks ago?

A roomful of Democratic or Republican whats? Political operatives? Ordinary citizens? Bloggers? Small-town reporters? National-level reporters? J-school profs? Newspaper/news-network proprietors? How does it matter? The new ethos is that identity determines outcomes, in all contexts. If the demands of equity require perfectly proportional representation among the ranks of J-school profs, why does that not extend to all other contexts? Actually, the answer is self-evident: In proper Foucauldian fashion, everything is an expression of power. Appeals to patriarchal concepts such as reason, rationality, objectivity, etc are merely used as cudgels of convenience when useful. Those same cudgels are disregarded just as quickly, when it is convenient.
