The last thing I remember Polonius saying was “Oh, I am slain.” You were there??? Yes and it was the only time I visited Denmark.

One of my faves is the Rice and Skaggs album. Tasty. Here’s a cut- I bought that album when it was first released. You probably did too. That is one of best albums ever made. Everything is spot-on perfect. The tunes are all remakes of older recordings by their heroes. They are done almost exactly like the originals except… they are way better. Other contenders for Best Album Ever include The Merle Travis Guitar (the yellow album), and The Bluegrass Album which again pays homage to the recordings that created bluegrass music.

As one would expect, Molly does a great job of explaining this stuff. Proper bluegrass rhythm guitar is hard and takes time to master. It isn’t just strumming chords along with the band, though a lot of people not steeped in bluegrass seem to think it is.
Playing a 1st position G chord replacing the treble 3rd with a 5th began, as I recall, in the late ‘70s. First generation players like Lester Flatt, Carter Stanley, et al., mostly played the B string open. They usually weren’t striking the B string hard enough to notice the difference.

Morning. Did someone break the Soundhole yesterday? Could not get it to load last night. Well, it’s back now. I had that problem too. I’d get an unformatted typewriter text message saying it failed to connect. I tried both iPad and iPhone with different browsers to no avail. When I used network utilities to see if the ProBoards site was up they determined that it was. I even tried with and without VPN. I went downstairs and used my iMac (without VPN) and there was no problem. I got in fine. I didn’t update any software so I’m guessing there was a glitch in a router somewhere. ProBoards itself seemed unaffected so it was in the networking somewhere. As you say, it’s OK today.

One thing you don’t want in a turntable base is anything that conducts vibration. I’m thinking that tonewood might not be a good choice.

Next time I’m in Boise, I’ll definitely check it out.
Actually, I’ve never been to Boise and very much doubt I’ll ever be there. Still…

We bought a mighty fine Fluance RT85 turntable a couple of years ago. It was less than half Martin’s price and I’ll bet it’s a much better turntable.

I must admit I am probably the target market for Taylor's ebony cutting boards. I thought ebony was toxic. Maybe that’s only the sawdust when inhaled.

Wow, Terry, that’s really scarry.
Interstate driving has become horrible. All the lanes are carrying heavy traffic so you can’t slow down, speed up, or even change lanes easily. The eighteen wheelers look like a long freight train speeding down the tracks. The only things missing are the couplings. All it takes is one small thing to go wrong and everybody is toast. All about faith in your fellow man.
Fiddlerina and I had to drive to the Houston area a couple of weeks ago. We took three days on the road each way taking care to avoid the Dallas to Houston route. On the way down we used Interstates and divided highways all the way thinking to save time. We took the “Avenue of the Saints” then over through Little Rock, Texarkana, etc., coming into Magnolia from the east. It was a harrowing trip all the way but especially near urban centers. For the return trip w took advantage of Apple Maps’ option of avoiding highways. The route suggested was two hours longer than the Interstate routes but over three days, two hours doesn’t make much difference. The route home took us through eastern Oklahoma through some of the most beautiful hills we’d ever seen. The whole trip home was lovely and we encountered very little traffic anywhere. A relaxing gorgeous drive home.
In the future, we’ll think long and hard before selecting and Interstate route for travel. It’s just not worth the tension and we see so much more on the roads less traveled.

Fiddlerina and I play senior centers, retirement homes, and assisted living homes too. Often we do it together with Bob and Kristy Black (Bob is a former Blue Grass Boy and known all over the world). The thing is, we are paid. We enjoy those gigs but these places aren’t charities, they have a budget for entertainment. If you’re playing these homes for free, someone else is getting the money.
Just sayin’.

This just seems stupid to me. Martin doesn’t design or build turntables. They’re only selling 25. What is the point? Did they get an offer they couldn’t refuse.
They aren’t going to earn enough on 25 turntables to justify the marketing even if they got the for free.

Actually, he did. More than once. Well, I just looked at three weeks' worth of his posts and didn't see it. Mind telling me what it is? Well, I remember these. There may be others. Ran tech (sound and lights) for the musical last night. I was one busy beaver running 16 mics and the lights. Today we do costumes (and I re-aim some lights). Start dress rehearsals next week with shows Thurs, Fri, Sat. I think it will work! Up early for early morning Saturday musical practice. Man, I love this gig in the mornings!

Taylor Swift performs for 40,000 people at a time. If tickets run $100 each (only a guess) thats four million per show. To play your new performing arts center, each ticket would need to cost $6,667 each. I'm guessing she could still pack the house at that price.
There are venues in our area (Cedar Rapids-Iowa City) that are like yours but we seldom go. They used to book our kind of music but that has been replaced by acts we choose not to go see.
I'm guessing the acts they now book appeal to people with more disposable income.
Sigh.

In truth, I subscribe to several YT guitar channels a couple of science, philosophy, psychology ones and ...erm... 73 sailing and boat building/repair channels and there are not many algorithmic offerings that deviate far from that sort of thing. Ooooh, boat building. Pant, drool. I have a small but decent library on boat building and naval architecture. Two or more lifetimes ago (or so it seems) I wanted to build Maine Guide canoes but there was no literature on the subject. So I began studying hull design and wooden boat building since there was nothing else available. Eventually I came up with a design and production ideas that would allow one person to build, on average, one such canoe per week. I figured the market for high-end canoes of this type would be stable since they are very expensive and the few people who’d want one will always have more money than they need. But before I could start to implement any of my ideas, Jerry Stelmok published his book, Building the Maine Guide Canoe, explaining everything. It turned out that the Old Town Canoe Co. was still building these on special order. They laid out the hull in their basement using hundred-year-old wooden forms. One man laid up the entire hull in a single day. They’d never come up with any faster, better way to do it. I realized that all my design and planning was for nought. But I still have all the boat books and still dream of half models and lofting.

Opening was a hit! We must had an easy 400 in the auditorium and they all standing at the end (and encouraged by some timely "whoops" from the sound and light booth, were very responsive the entire show). It was a good show! (and I didn't miss a cue...by much) (hey, I was running 16 mics plus lights, by much is good!) I don't believe you ever mentioned what show you're doing? Actually, he did. More than once.

I'm a bit worried that the YouTube algorithm is going to misunderstand me now. I go through my viewing history and remove anything that I don’t want influencing the algorithm.

...and it's not me! I thought this was hilarious. I would reproduce in full, but copyright, etc. Some asshole is signing your name to stupid lettersA legal letter of noteSHAUN USHER In November of 1974, an attorney named Dale Cox wrote to his favourite American football club, the Cleveland Browns, and informed them that a number of the team’s fans were regularly throwing paper aeroplanes in the stadium—a potentially “dangerous” activity that could, he warned, cause “serious eye injury” to innocent fans such as himself. His letter can be read below, along with the now legendary reply he soon received from the club’s legal department. news.lettersofnote.com/p/very-truly-yoursLink no workie for me.
