The only problem I'm having with it is that I'm still getting emails whenever anyone joins the Fingerstyle group. I thought I had adjusted the settings right.

I'm with you on that. I get 12 emails a day saying: so-and-so joined; so-and-so posted blabbidy blah. I thought I killed all that but they still show up.

The videos are a neat concept. But I have plenty of opportunities to see Gil already. There was a brief window of opportunity yesterday with none of those videos showing on the front page, so I joined. I'm number 2547. And I'm still trying to kill the emails.

Help!
The emails won't stop. I just got one that told me that somebody posted a comment on someone else's page.
Who cares?!
I might have to unjoin. Trying to keep up with email deletions is a full time job.

Trying to keep up with email deletions is a full time job. Yeah, I'm having the same problem with my other ning site. I finally decided to join John Carlini's "Taking guitar to the next level" group. I joined, got a mailbox full of "___ just joined". So I unjoined and clicked all the right stop buttons and when I re-joined I still got all the "___ just joined" emails. Ning gots an annoying little bug to work out.

The only problem I'm having with it is that I'm still getting emails whenever anyone joins the Fingerstyle group. I thought I had adjusted the settings right. At this point, I've killed (unchecked) every box, and I am still painfully aware of how many net-savvy fingerstyle players there are out there. (And, who knew? I had no idea that FS guitar was so popular... maybe I'm in the right field after all...). I think I'll shoot Teja an email and ask about that–not that he's long on time to deal with things, but he may know who to forward the email on to. Regarding the vids, that's quickly turning into an opportunist/cutthroat wasteland, IMHO. Right now the front page only has vids by a way pro serious jazzbo that I've *never* seen around any AG site before (though he has toured through Spokane more than once) as well as Brian Gore's IGN stuff–which is great, so far as it goes (he's been around before) but the vids are quickly polarizing out into two extreme camps: pros that are flying in by night mining for exposure and the overly prolific hobbyist. I mean, without clear categories and linked networks, nobody is going to find the rest of our vids buried against that sort of backdrop. If it's eventually going to boil down to "who's axe is louder" then we're basically looking at an online version of walking into guitar center... ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ;D

Mike, I would agree - but for the casual browser, it's decent. You can figure out pretty quickly who the amateurs are, and kill the video. In the meantime, there's lots of other good stuff, and quite frankly, I don't go back to already viewed videos much anyway. So, it's kind of like permanent channel surfing. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Not so good for pros trying to get exposure, as nothing stays there for long. Does Gil doing anything besides record vids of this and Neil's stuff? I mean, he has a family.

He MAY have a family. They might be real, or they might be fictitious, created only to try to make for more interesting pleas to play his videos.
The only thing that we know for sure is that he has a closet.

I think the only thing that irks me about the videos is that star rating system. Someone puts up a video that has 2 views and a 5 star rating. I put videos up to show the music I have been fortunate to have captured, not to enter it into a contest.

The ratings are just an average of what people put in, right? If two people each give it 5 stars, then it gets a 5 star rating?
You could drop that video to 3.5 stars all by yourself.

That reminds me, did you put up the rest of the I-jam videos?
I saw some good ones a while back. The only thing wrong with them is that they weren't me.

I received a reply from Teja.....
Hi Don, Sorry for those email troubles. It does seem that the.ning default sends users emails about just about every possible activity. Have you tried changing your settings in the email tab under "My Settings"? I think there may also be an issue if you joined groups prior to changing your settings, so you may have to leave groups and then re-join. Let me know if this works. Best, Teja Gerken Senior Editor, Acoustic Guitar (415) 485-6946 ext. 613 (415) 485-0831 FAX teja@stringletter.com I'll try departing and rejoining and see what happens.

Ok, I just unjoined 5 groups, reset my settings, then joined 7 groups.
Hopefully you guys didn't just get 12 (13?) emails.

As well as the ones from Lisa and Barry. ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) I have some things to do for a while, then I'll try the "leave and return" method. If that doesn't fly, I think I'll just bail on the whole thing until they fix it.
