I heard on the news this morning that the e. coli problem Taco Bell is having widening, affecting more of their restaurants, if that's what you want to call them.
My question is, if the problem is worsening, why the hell are people eating there?

The news this morning says that Taco Bell is removing green onions from all menu items in all restaurants. GREAT!! The only green vegetable in the store and they BAN it.

My question is, if the problem is worsening, why the hell are people eating there? Latest wrinkle is that the company has concluded that green onions are the problem, and it has yanked those from the menu for the time being. I never eat there misself, nor any fast-food place except an occasional Subway sammich.

I've never even been in a Taco Bell. The last time I ate in a McD the hamburgers were 12 cents and the cheeseburgers were 15 cents, and they had sold 3 million. I did eat in a Steak and Shake about 6 yrs ago, and a BK about 19 yrs ago.
You might get the idea that I don't do fast food.

Is it any surprise that I like Taco Bell? As long as you don't confuse it with Mexican food it is pretty good.

They're pretty sure that green onions are the problem, but, from what I understand they don't assuredly know that yet. So my question remains, why in the hell are people going there?

By the way, Bill, Subway is pretty gross, if you ask me. Yeh, I never patronize them unless I am on the road with my daughters, for whom Subway represents health food. We have Cousins Subs up here, and they are great, also Jimmy Johns, pretty reliable.

According to Web MD, E Coli symptoms can include severe bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps, but sometimes the infection causes non-bloody diarrhea, a slight fever, or no symptoms at all.
So it seems to me the obvious question would be, given those symptoms, how can you really tell whether you've eaten tainted or non-tainted Taco Bell food?

Used to eat at Taco Hell all the time when I was in the service. You could get the most food for the least amount of money. About every two weeks though, when we were flat broke and payday wasn't for a few more days we'd go to Arby's because it was the only place that took a check. I had it mastered. It took exactly 3.5 days for a check to get from New Mexico to the bank in Illinois. Couldn't do that now, I'm sure.

Putin Denies Being ‘Anywhere Near’ Taco Bell Calls Linking Him to E-Coli Outbreak ‘Pure Fantasy’
Russian President Vladimir Putin lashed out today at accusers who have pointed the finger at him in recent days for the outbreak of e-coli infections at several Taco Bell restaurants in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
President Putin, already on the defensive over accusations that he poisoned former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko with radioactive sushi, held a press conference at the Kremlin today to offer his categorical denial of any involvement in the Taco Bell poisonings.
“I have not been anywhere near Taco Bell,” a visibly angry Mr. Putin told reporters. “Anyone who says I have done so is trading in pure fantasy.”
But despite Mr. Putin’s vehement statements to the contrary, several restaurant managers of the Taco Bell chain said that they saw a balding man resembling the Russian President skulking around their restaurants in recent days.
“I saw this sneaky-looking guy in a trench coat carrying a test tube of something funky and I was like, that is totally that evil Russian dude,” said Tracy Lamant, a manager of one of the New Jersey Taco Bells that was hit by the e-coli outbreak.
But according to Davis Logsdon, who heads up the University of Minnesota’s Institute of International Espionage, it is “highly unlikely” that Mr. Putin would start the spread of e-coli at Taco Bell restaurants in order to murder former Russian spies.
“First of all, there’s no evidence that Russian spies eat American fast food,” Dr. Logsdon. “Secondly, if they do, they’ll die pretty soon anyway.”
Elsewhere, the Iraq Study Group published its report on the current state of Iraq, entitled “A Million Little Pieces.”

well posted Marty.
I wonder how to avoid abusing people when I buy anything these days.
I am beginning to wonder what is with all the e coli cropping up in fresh vegies these days - this fall we have had poisonous spinach, green onions, the carrot juice from some juice company, all from California. If it isn't botulism it's something else.
Time to take a cold hard look at cost-cutting measures, it seems to me. Time to beef up inspections.

I don't have any proof but I would lay odds that most of their produce comes from Chile and that they can use damn near anything they want for fertilizer.
