(I looked for Shabbos candles, but they tend to be iconographically neutral. There was one nice shot with challah that had my mouth watering, though.)

It's OK, Russell. I wasn't really offended.
If you'd like a great recipe for challah, nicked from my great-aunt Celia, e-mail me at stormntwang@optonline.net.

We learned challah while in grad school, from a Chicago-suburban kid whose connection with her family's traditions was sufficiently attenuated that she called it "holly." There was nothing wrong with her recipe, though.
Oddly enough, given the sub-minimal Jewish community in our neck of the woods, one of the local stores makes challah, even outside of the holiday season. The best thing about the winter/early spring holiday cycle, baking-wise, is the annual appearance of stollen, Irish soda bread, hot cross buns, and challah. At a Publix in Florida last month I also ran across what I swear was a goyische version of challah called "Easter bread." Sugar on top rather than glaze, but yeasty/eggy with raisins. Wonderful adaptation.

It's good stuff. Sadly, I have developed an intolerance in my dotage to most things wheat, and am unable to indulge.

I've never known how to spell challah. First had it at a girlfriend's house in 1969, made by her mother. It was delicious.

Interesting! I believe the Israelites and the Israelis, never knew a distinction between the two, were/are the "Chosen People" and biblical times are not limited to what's recorded in the bible but also it's prophetic scope and current times as well.
Happy Pickin', everybody!

Wonderful adaptation. And I should have added, "Is this a great country or what?" Eat real American food: pizza, tacos, biryani, bratwurst, lasagne, gyros, corned beef and cabbage, blintzes, borscht, balandeliai. . . .

You put me in mind of the Monty Python "Whizzo Chocolate Company" sketch. Here's an excerpt:
"Constable: I don't give a damn about your sales. We have to protect the public! Now, what was this one? Number five. It was number five, wasn't it? Number five: 'Ram's Bladder Cup!' Now what kind of confection is this?
Mr. Hilton: We use choicest juicy chunks of fresh Cornish ram's bladder, emptied, steamed, flavored with sesame seeds, whipped into a fondue, and garnished with larks' vomit!
Constable: Larks' vomit?
Mr. Hilton: Correct.
Constable: It doesn't say anything down here about larks' vomit!
Mr. Hilton: Ah, yes, it does, on the bottom of the box, after monosodium glutamate..."
