So in my Christmas time off, I dug out and categorized all the back issues I have of fingerstyle guitar magazine along with all the CDs that go with it.
I have issues going back to #20 (1997 or so) (they are now on issue #71) with a few missing in the mix, but still very complete with 45 CDs for all these issues.
I'm in the process of ripping these CDs to my hard drive so I have the music, but am thinking of putting up the whole lot for sale. Mhy problem is figuring how to value the collection. If you buy individual copies from FG's web site, they want $9.95 per copy. that would be around $450 or so for what I have.
..any suggestion on a way to put value on something like this? I've never seen anyone sell a collection like this before, so it is pretty rare.

CDs? What a newbie. My files go back to #1, and I have a whole shelf of cassettes to go with them.
Of course, those eary issues are on clay tablature, so I have to keep them very dry.

That's it, I'm re-subscribing. The thing is, if you subscribe for just 2 or 3 years you'll have more music to learn than the average person could deal with in a lifetime. I have a big 3 ring binder with tons of song I want to learn and a smaller binder with lots of other songs that I really want to learn and a few songs which I actually have learned.
But it really is a great magazine.

That really is the funny thing about this is that I never really sat down and learned any of the songs from these. As it happens I'm much more of a blues player and tend to prefer songs over instrumentals. These are all instrumental pieces. All great music though. I rediscovering just how much good music is on these CDs from ripping them all to my hard drive.

I use the old retail model of 50%. If thery're selling them new for X. An individual selling used items should be at 50% of X.
I would guess that a collection isn't worth much as such unless it is complete. (meaning collectable). Of course you probably don't want to be selling individual issues. Too much hassle. So I'd guess if somebody was looking for these they'd expect a discount off of what the company would sell for. If you get too close to their price, why would anyone want to deal with used from an individual when they can get gar-own-teed poifect copies from the publisher for almost the same price.
Of course I'm a bargain hunter. I wouldn't buy without a generous discount.

If it was totally complete, it would be worth more than just a large incomplete collection. Plus the condition of the magazines aren't pristine. If I auction the collection on eBay with a reasonable reserve price, I can let the market decide.

Paul,
FYI, there have been quite a few Chinese knockoffs of Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine showing up on Ebay lately. Be sure to take some detailed photos of the watermark and the copyright and publishing info. Be sure to include photos of a couple complete songs, complete with lyrics, if any, in English.
Be prepared for some tough questioning.

Fingerstyle? ...and there's more than one CD? It's kinda like Celtic music- only one song but a wide variety of spellings.

You know, what they should do is market the tunes in some books. They have everything already, they might be able to make some extra $$$.

They could sell the CD collection separately and make some extra money for sure. Now that I have the whole set ripped to the hard drive, I created a play list in iTunes with all these CDs and set it to play randomly...quite an impressive set of music. A total of 410 tracks. ...correction 424 tracks...found issue No 59

I just bought a book of fiddle tunes, that I liked because it had the CD so I could check my reading of the notation and tab. It has 36 tunes in it. You have to think the Fingerstyle guys could make some $$$ reselling it. That's about 10 books worth you have there. And the music is pretty darn good, too.

That's it, I'm re-subscribing. As a charter subscriber and (eventually unpaid) contributor, I'd wait for newsstand issues. That way you know they really exist. About fiddle tunes/Irish tunes: The joke around here is: A guy from the audience says to a band member, "Gee, they all sound so much alike--how do you tell 'em apart." To which the musician says, "Well, y'know, they've got names."

If I wait for the newsstand issue they're always gone before I can get to them. And since they only come out every 2 months if I miss it, it's gone.

I think the value depends quite a bit on whether the centerfolds are still intact.

The CDs are the centerfolds. "Get a load of the triplets in this one! And have you ever seen pull-offs like that! Yowza!"
