One of my computers crashed, and I lost all the programs on the machine. Does anyone know how to locate a Product Key so I can re-install the program? No, I don't have the CD.

You can buy a new one from Microsoft I believe, but it isn't cheap.

I think I can call them and get the key, but I know it's hiding somewhere in my computer in the reg files. Just don't know how to find it.

Somebody smarter than me has to tell you how to do that, Bob. I had to re-load Office when my motherboard fried. I can't remember what Microsoft was going to charge me for a new key, but it was sufficiently high enough that I tore my house apart and found the program case.
Have you Googled the question?

Stop using that trash and get the free one. It's virtually the same thing. I have Office 2000 and don't care if I ever use it again. Didn't even install it on this computer.

I have indeed. The answer was so complicated that I closed the window. I can call them manana and force them to give me the key.

ahhh. Then nothing will do but what she wants. I guess. For myself, the odd time that I require a word processor I use Star Office from Sun. Also the Excel clone. It looks the same to me.

I thought it would be in the registry but I just searched mine, I do have the CD and key, and didn't find it. It's either not stored there or it's not stored in legible form, maybe encrypted somehow. Damn Microsoft anyway. Good luck.

Talk to Tramp. He's over in India. That's who you'll end up talking to.
"And how are you today?"

FWIW, I've been using Google Docs for over a year now. Mostly for spreadsheets. Its not as full-featured as Excel, but its good enough.
I despise MS Office products. We have customers sending us artwork in Word all the time, and half the time there are viruses in the files that screw up our machines. I HATE THAT!
MS software is a virus. I HATE IT!

Will Google docs open a Word 2010 file? Probably.
I had to update from 2003 to 2010 because some people send me files. But i keep both versions on the PC. I only use 2010 to read somebody's file. I hate working in it. In 2007 they changed the interface so now I can't find all the things I was familiar with doing. Irks the hell out of me. And 2010 takes almost a minute to boot up. 2003 comes up in about 5 seconds. Whenever I boot up a 2010 document, I go get a cup of coffee. I haven't had to do that since I was working on a Compaq 286 computer.

I use the came with the computer Office 2010 for that reading and I haven't used it enough to get to the forced to buy part because like you I only use it for reading stuff someone sent with the new extension.

I love Office 2010. It didn't take me too long to figure out the new interface, and it's definitely more powerful. Of course, I was using either Word or Excel for 40+ hours a week, as they were the primary programs I used.

Are you looking for the CD key for a program or the O/S? Most install files for programs that come pre installed are stored in a partitioned section of the drive. That way the manufacturer doesn't have to provide you with physical copies of the CD. Look and see if you have a small partition on the drive and your pre-installed software and the O/S should be stored in a recovery folder on that partition.

I could still be doing every thing I do in Word on Word Perfect 5.0 and I could so every thing I do in Excel in Lotus 123.

LOL! Tramp.
"I think I see my supervisor on the floor, sorry but I must put you on hold for just ten minutes ... Sorry Sir for the wait, can you please tell me your name and how can I be helping you today? ... thank you sir but I must transfer you to our [other] department, so sorry sir, can you just hold on for just another minute? ... and that was when they transferred me to a Buick dealership somewhere in Utah. (Adobe customer service - endless useless loops)
