I look for the cables that evoke chocolate and squirrell ass. Remind me not to steal your cables.

There is a method to my madness, Aqua.

Plus with the right (tweed) cable, you get those delicious toasted wheat underpinnings in your tone. Real electric guitar players prefer a hoppier effervesance. Just sayin'.... So, you'd use jumper cables then?

No time to read all 4 pages, so I'll throw in my decision on electrics. I didn't want to have to pick single vs humbucker or deal with scale length decision, so my search for an electric was based on getting all the choices. The Taylor electrics have the single-coil and humbucker selections with tone controls and semi hollow sound. Then I went with a modeler pedal to get a variety of amps, stacks, and effects so I would have to spend a fortune on the sound effects. So I can dial up a fender strat, or Les Paul or anything in between depending on what I want to mess around with. Because I have an amp modeler, I use an acoustic amp that doesn't further color the sound. Since I don't perform with it, it's good enough for me and tons of fun.

Well, I'm generally playing "Clean" with maybe a little reverb or tremolo on the archtops and the Johnson has a "Clean" setting but still sounded like shit with the Martin. I was thinking that maybe the "Acoustic" amp assumed a preamp in the guitar, which the Martin has, whereas the "Electric" amp assumed just the raw pickup input which the archtops and classical would be. I thought maybe the preamp in the Martin was over-driving the Johnson creating distortion. The Behringer has 2 channels, one for voice and has equalizers and effects, reverb etc., on each channel. I do have to turn the volume up on the Behringer when using the archtops and more with the classical, then remember to turn it back down for the Martin. I use the volume control on the guitars to adjust for the room size but the classical doesn't have any controls so I have to use the control on the amp. I have the equalizer set in a inverted V for the Martin and raise the bass side for the archtops and classical. I think this got lost but I would like opinions on whether the preamp in the Martin might over-drive an "Electric" amp causing distortion.

Millring, just remember to never plug your guitar directly into the electrical wall socket. You can blow out all of your fillings pretty pretty quickly.

I think Aqua and I deserve some sort of "Forum Kudos" for our excellent and informative contributions to this thread.

That Taylor has a piezo too, doesn't it. Get a Fishman Aura pedal with acoustic guitar modeling, and you don't need anything else.

The inputs on electric amps are fairly robust to all kinds of signal levels. Mine don't blink at the Fishman preamp in my Gibson. They still sound like shit, though. Like dickt said, it's mostly about how the frequency response is set up. Tubes will tend to be warm and mid-rangy and won't do much for an acoustic that is already warm and mid-rangy outside of muddy it up. Now a bright shimmery Taylor is another story. My experience is that the electric amp will do just fine smoothing the jangle out.

Forum Kudos? Haven't had a case of those since that little Lithuanian girl kissed me in the first grade. One kiss from you and it turned her Lithuanian? She kissed me and gave me kudos. Had to convene the entire He Man Waman Haters club for our double top secret ireversible kudos remover ritual. Kudos. Yuck. She came out as a Lithuanian many years later. Maybe that had something to do with it.
