Our arangement of stormy monday goes about 7 min, and I find the structure complicated. When I do it solo, without Chris for the vocals and harp, it's about 4 min. Sex is good for an extra 3 min of audience paying attention.

But Doug, that's just 3 or 4 chords right. My "If I's you, I'd-a Left Me There) is very similar to "Storbby Monday" (as sung with a cold) and only has 3 chords like most slow back-porch 12-barre blues and lasts over 8 minutes, but as someone mentioned earlier length is not necessarily complication in chords, unexpected changes and timing alterations. Any blues that leaves room for several solos with the harmonica and another guitar can drone on. But Green's piece in like a mini opera and noe of it would work if anything was left out, as if the story didn't get totally told. Blessed, but rambling again, Dan

Dan I play it somewhat like this.
And I play them all as jazz type chords.

It used to get a laugh at open mikes where you get to play two or three songs to fake going into Dylan's Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands. I think it clocks in at almost twelve minutes. Great song though. The most elaborate? Some Marcel Dadi, Merle Travis, Jerry Reed, Doc Watson, Mississippi John Hurt. Oh By Jingo, Oh By Gee by Chet Atkins is probably the toughest song I play. Although it's getting easier because I forget a lot of it. Ha ha. My ultimate aim is Travis's Walking the Strings. In my dreams, probably. Now THAT'S a master class adventure.

Probably the most elaborate song in my set list right now is Mike Dowling's tune Johnson City Rag. A lot of jazz chord forms and numerous sections around a basic theme. But a very cool sounding tune. He showed me how to play when I spent a week at his house a few years ago.

Double cool, Paul. So you had a week's worth of workshop with Mike Dowling?

Double cool, Paul. So you had a week's worth of workshop with Mike Dowling? 5 days actually. Got there on a Sunday night and I was there Monday through Friday. My wife and I decided to stay at a ranch near by rather than stay at Mike's house so she could go horseback riding while I was working with Mike. We probably put in at least 6 hours per day. Although he has a great little setup in his basement for working on instruments too, so we spent a little time getting some buzzing out of my Baritone tricone too. He used to work in Gruhn guitars shop years ago. Quite an intensive week, but very useful to me...and I got it all recorded as well.
