Don—delighted to read all these recent posts and I wish you the speediest and completest (<-- is that a real word?) of recoveries. Looking good, sir. Looking good!

Daily incremental progress in all areas is most pleasing. BP, Blood sugar (temporarily diabetic), O2 sat, basic strength are way beyond where I thought I'd be. Down to one IV and that may be done by tomorrow. Still projecting release and heading home as early as Tuesday.....a week after transplant. I couldn't be happier. Even more surprising.....with the exception of pressure on my chest from a nagging cough (which is improving).....no pain or pain meds. (y) Just a boatload of other pills....26 just for breakfast.

Just a boatload of other pills....26 just for breakfast. A little maple syrup and some bacon and they'll go down just fine.

All those years of crazed rock and roll lifestyle burned all the nerves out? All around fantastic news, Don.

So, Don, how does it FEEL, physiologically, to have a new heart? Do you feel like you have more energy, easier breathing, that sort of thing? Or perhaps it is too soon to tell, until you get to moving around more?
I just think it's so amazing that you could be sent home next week!

I saw Don tonight, and he looked and sounded a LOT better than the last time we met. It is clear he has had a huge weight lifted off of him. He still has a few attachments stuck in him, but I think those will be out soon. It will be nice for him to be totally untethered to tubes and catheters and such. I'll see him again in a few weeks when he comes back for a check-up.

Good to get the report. The stress of the situation is exactly what Don didn't need. So glad that much of that has been lifted.

It is a bit early to tell exactly, but regardless I feel immense overall improvement in the basic areas you pinpointed. Long term progress will be slow, but that's OK.....I was 57 when this all began in 2008. I'm planning on feeling like that again and that is my target. Recuperate and heal, cardiac rehab, walking, and weight training. After this long of a period of minimal activity, I feel like marshmallow. It was great to see Paul again. We met the very first night of this journey. I was sick as the dickens. Saw each other again when I had the first "dry run", still sick. And we got together last night, a week after transplant. For an hour and a half. I've so appreciated his friendship through this. We have to get him to IJ.

Just want to add that my neighbor across the street lived over 20 years with a heart-lung transplant. So you should be good-to-go for a long time.

It's been a wacky as heck 3+ weeks here.....and I believe I may have omitted mentioning that I also had a phone call from Alan Chavers. Was good to talk, however briefly. We met at I-Jam 2009. Sure appreciated your call, Alan!
