"An El Paso source close to Justice Antonin Scalia tells ABC-7 that the 79-year-old died in his sleep last night after a day of quail hunting at Cibolo Creek Ranch outside of Marfa, Texas.
The Justice did not report feeling ill and retired to his room after dinner. The source, who was traveling with Scalia, told ABC-7 an El Paso priest has been called to Marfa.
Scalia was the longest-serving current Justice on the Supreme Court. He was appointed by President Ronald Reagan in 1986."

It's not on CNNs web page or local news.

I guess Obama will get a chance at moderating the SC.

If this is true it's a huge game changer.

Democrats just lost a few presidential votes. Not many, but a few. Not a game changer, but a few.

I guess Obama will get a chance at moderating the SC. I'm guess there will be a continued shift leftward.

Too late for Obama to pick the replacement. Even if he sent someone up to the Senate today the vote would be delayed to well after the election. McConnell is on shaky ground as it is.

It just put congress in check. They're going to have to sacrifice a knight or a bishop in order to (they'll believe) save their chances at their king. If they delay an appointment they'll only excite the Democratic base for the upcoming election. The best they can hope for is that Clinton talks Obama into as relatively moderate a leftist as he can appoint (a Kennedy, for instance, to put an historical parallel up for example) so that the appointment doesn't serve to excite the Republican base that is, at this point, catatonic.

Want to hear a silly FB rumor. Obama put out a hit on Scalia. Nuts come in all flavors.

I never gave it too much thought until just now, but it’s a weird system we have. Like a monarchy, the only hope we have for a change in direction is by death.

I think I follow what you’re saying, but why is it Clinton talking Obama into a moderate?

I think I follow what you’re saying, but why is it Clinton talking Obama into a moderate? Because she stands to lose the most by an energized Republican base. If she can talk Obama into at least the appearance of a moderate, the fear of her three upcoming appointments will be somewhat ameliorated.
