I've been playing "I'll Fly Away" on and off all day. Now I know why. And I was just marveling at Millring quoting Dave Carter, who died totally unexpectedly in 2002 when I was at Swannanoa. At a staff concert the next day or so, several instructors paid tribute, including Johnsmith, who did this wonderful song of his (John's, not Dave's). I even helped, in my primitive way, to come up a part for two violins to accompany it.

There is a corny song, Desperados Waiting For A Train. that a friend was singing about that time, and I couldn't help sobbing. Lonnie was so inspiring to each of us.

I am positive God has a clone of Lonnie's Goodall guitar tuned and waiting for him along with a list of requests, probably starting with "Walking in Memphis."

Lonnie made this song his own. The Kern is flowing well now.

Thanks for spreading that bit of comfort, Bill. It helps to know that the transition was peaceful and amongst loved ones. Thinking about Lonnie as he journeys onwards, and of Patti and all loved ones who are left behind.

Bill,
Thanks for posting about Lonnie's brief time at home and his passing.
Reading all that has been posted on The Soundhole in the past couple of days has been a wonderful reminder of what we've all known; Lonnie touched each of us in one way or another and we've all had a chance to express that. How wonderful that before he passed Lonnie was able to see and experience the love and admiration we all have for him. Though his physical presence has passed from our midst we will always carry in our hearts the gifts that he gave to each of us.
Goodbye, Lonnie. You are gone much too soon but I am so glad to have known you.

I was out today with my wife, walking along the Fraser river in one of the beautiful parks here. I was thinking about Lonnie, and friends who have passed suddenly. It makes me realize, one more time, that I should not waste time waiting for the perfect moment to retire, as I cannot know how much time I have left.
I wish I had the courage when younger to do what Lonnie did, and make the decision to live a creative life. I can do that now, for what I have left.
I wish I'd had the chance to know him. The accolades show a wonderful human.

I haven't posted or visited much in quite a long time. Never had the privilege of meeting or chatting with Lonnie. But I saw the posts on Facebook about his passing and felt compelled to at visit these digital pages again.
RIP Lonnie.

I don't spend much time on the Internet forums these days and just found this. I am very sorry to read this. I feel privileged to have been able to have captured his essence.
R.I.P Lonnie

We just walked in the door and I looked here first. Sigh.
So glad Bill was there and so grateful for his tender description. We all know how we all feel. I feel the same. I'll close this and go tell Joy. There will be tears.

Saddened but not surprised to see this news this morning. My sincerest sympathies to all who knew Lonnie. I'll raise a glass to him this afternoon and it will be the good stuff. May we all go out with as much grace and dignity as he did.
