Amazing dog stuff! I have seen the training videos for them taking well padded folks to the ground. But the real life stuff is amazing. It was textbook dog work as far as I can tell.
My video is not clear enough to see what the cop did. It looked like a couple punches might have been thrown. I understand that would not be textbook, but I also understand that humans are not likely repeatedly trained for every heart pounding, adrenaline inducing situations such as this. In a perfect world, yes, the cop should be trained to use only the force that is absolutely required. It should be muscle memory, like running a scale on a guitar, but I don't know that we can train all our cops to react perfectly, without emotion. In short, I would cut the cop a bit of slack if he used a little more than necessary force if that is what occurred.
