There are two of them, I assume male and female but they look the same. They've been hanging out perching on this fence for the past two or three years. Or on the pole for the feeder, as in this picture, although they don't touch the thistle seed.  There is also a wooden utility pole about 6 feet away, and they enjoy strolling up and down the thing like we'd stroll down a vertical sidewalk. I've looked it up on various bird identification sights, but what throws me off is the beak. It's a long narrow thing, like a needle.  Like it's made for poking into holes for insects. They've been gathering nesting materials the past few days, preferring fluffy stuff, but they seem to do nothing but carry it to the fence then drop it on the ground. They have the prettiest short little trill, and are used to me, they don't take off unless I get very close. I'd love to know that kind of bird this is, but again I can't seem to get too far when I try to key it out.  |

That ain’t no bird. That is Yogi Bear. The hat and no wings should have clued you to that.
It appears to be a Wren of some sort. I thought it looked like a rock wren but they are farther west, I think.
Not a rock n roll wren. They are much louder and stay up all night and hang around big city entertainment districts.

C’mon, Dub! Troglodytes are dinosaurs that ate cave men and they are much bigger than little birds.
I saw a movie about Troglodytes once. It starred Victor Mature.

I have hunted birds since I was 5 years old and that, my friend, is a Golden Eagle. Don't ask me how I know because there are legal ramifications to my answer.

I was going to guess that it's not a wren because wrens tend to hold their tails up. But after looking at pictures it could easily be a rock wren. I'm not familiar with them. Storms and changing weather patterns could blow a few wrens beyond their traditional territory.

I looked up the sound and that matches as well. The song is my favorite part of this bird.
