Congratulations. You'll find that even without work, your time manages to get taken up by stuff.
in my case, I had to come up with all new excuses for not getting better on guitar. Before, it was, "Jeez, I work eight hours a day...." That doesn't apply anymore.

It’s funny, I still do my bit of consulting. This now amounts to 7 ot 8 hours a month. I resent that time so badly. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) I’m going to finish off this one last tax season with my old company, and pack it in, I think. Susan wants me to keep that bit of money flowing, but it’s shrunk considerably. As to time, damn, I’m spending 5+ hours a day writing my fiction, and writing and recording music. Go for walks pretty much every day, and workout three times a week. Lots to do if you have the energy.

The important thing to remember about retiring is that you no longer have to show up at work.

Rick, I've done some law-related work off and on since retiring. Mostly investigations and serving as a hearing officer. I find that these projects encumber a lot more time than I can bill. For example, if there's a telephone conference at 10:00 AM on Tuesday there are a lot of things I can't do that day. I'm wrapping up another one at the moment and I think it may be my last.

Don't do anything weird to piss of Melva before she's retired. Don't start building an airplane in the basement, don't get a dog without asking, and quite trying to use a capo to change all of those G keys.

Need something to occupy yourself for a while?
Maybe try building a boat...?!?

Need something to occupy yourself for a while? Maybe try building a boat...?!? Been there, done that. I still have three boats that I built in the garage (I also built the garage...) Canoes, granted, but over the years I built a lot of them. I was the St Croix Canoe Company. I used to write a canoe-building column for the local canoe association.

Screw boats. Build a guitar. Stew-Mac has nice kits. I think my retirement present to myself will be a Cargo a few months down the road. Something to throw in the camping trailer for the road trips. They never seem to go on sale, so if anybody sees a deal on one let me know.

Here you go! ![](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/d4/10/93/d410935e7fd9deca8a8548f762cdd82b.jpg) This lovely is in your neck of the woods just across the river. Just needs a little work and she'll be spitting and purring. Restoring old tractors is a rewarding and lucrative hobby, plus you get to drive it in parades and meet all kinds of really hot women. ... um, might want to not mention that very last part. Just a little tractor secret to keep under your hat. [wink wink]

Congratulations !!!
I have two weeks of vacation starting next Tuesday. I planned on retiring next June, but after 42 years of software development and pleading with people to do it right the first time and stop the quick hacks, I’m considering, when I return in January, to give a two week and call it done.
It’s been a great ride for a kid who used to build HeathKit stuff and taught himself how to program computers, and still be competing with the 20 somethings these days. I’ve loved every minute of the technical stuff and living on the edge with all the beta releases. I’ll go out just as fascinated as I was when I started in 1978.
I think it’s time...

...used to build HeathKit stuff ... Did you ever try a dynaco? I did the power amp but (perhaps wisely) didn't try the preamp.

If that is indicative of their sound, do yourself and your listeners a favor and get something else.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Now you will have more time on your hands for piracy on the Mississippi River (not to mention rehearsal time for the Duck Band)
(I'm right behind you and Gene. I have informed my management that I plan to retire sometime in 2021. "Sometime" is looking like earlier in the year rather than late in the year)
