Thank you all for the birthday wishes. I very much appreciate them. I don't usually make a big deal out of birthdays, but I am this year as it occurs when my wife, Kim, is still in the hospital recovering from surgery she had Monday. So I will pester you with an update:
Kim has been through several surgeries in her lifetime, and compared to those the healing time isn't progressing as fast as I originally suspected. But then this surgery took over ten hours, so the longer healing time is to be expected. Good things going on, though:
They took her NG tube out. I've heard how much those things suck.
Her epidural catheter thingie is now gone. She still has pain, but opted to get off of that.
Her incision is from stem to stern, but looks good. (Not to me, but according to the doctors it looks great).
Her diet, since surgery, has progressed from: Nothing, to dips of water and ice chips, to a clear liquid diet such as broth, to applesauce. That's quite a progression.
So the direction seems to be upward. Because of covid one visitor per day is allowed. We have two daughters who absolutely have a right to be a part of that, which means I haven't been there since Wednesday but tomorrow is my turn. And for someone who doesn't think much of birthdays, that's the best gift I've ever gotten.

Good news about Kim is the greatest gift one could ask for.
(I hope Howie and Emmy are behaving themselves for the occasion; it's the least they could do.)

I see that there's still an hour of birthday left, so I'd better get in a greeting before the clock strikes twelve. More important, to register relief that Kim is recovering well from her surgery. Pretty soon she will work her way up to ice cream. Celebration!
