Do you have any idea how difficult it is to do these calculations after three or four gin and tonics? I gave up after coming up with Chevy owing the DOT three goats and a pound of lutefisk for something to do with the Corvette. You're close. Except they owe DOT that for the Chevy Geo. But DOT would probably settle for a Vette.

Just heard on Varney that in response to the court's hit on EPA, EPA is taking 40% of the Permian Basin oil field off the market (no drilling) which should raise oil to over $200/bbl. The greenies will freeze to death in the dark this Winter, finally.

Anyone know what the Whitehouse is heated with?

Yup. Anyone know what the Whitehouse is heated with? Mark Meadows' documents.

Somehow I thought government buildings were heated entirely by naturally occurring hot air.

In all seriousness, this is and has been the problem with EPA for pretty much forever. They, unlike most government agencies, only employ 2 kinds of people- true believers and the general kind of sort of middling bureaucrats that won't rock the boat and are waiting to retire (once you've got your first year in with the government you're pretty much guaranteed to never lose your job). They are unlike any other agency I've ever run into in that there's an almost cult-like level of indoctrination. My job as North American Director of Environmental stuff which I started in 2007 literally meant that I did almost nothing else aside from deal with "Climate Change". It was the hottest ticket in town then. EPA had just lost EPA v. Massachusetts. Well, "lost" is probably not the right word- more like deliberately threw because, you know, that just means bigger budgets and all the things that go with that anyways. DC could already smell blood in the water with Climate Change TM and were busy debating how to make the most of it. Used to have a great paper put together by the Congressional Research Service (CRS) that outlined the whole issue and what the options were for solving it. As they noted the mechanics of CO 2 production were as follows: The amount of CO 2 in the atmosphere equals the population times an economic activity factor. Solving it meant killing economic productivity and thus large portions of the population. There were 2 ways to do that that the government could use- Cap and Trade or turning EPA loose. Cap and Trade meant that all the economic players in the country were issued a certain allotment of CO2 that they could produce. At first this would be allotted based on the current economy. Then the government would start reducing the number of total permits available and the "trading" part of the scheme would come into play as folks were forced to bargain for their lives. This actually came up as a bill in Congress in 2009 called Lieberman Warner (named after the 2 main sponsors). It failed resoundingly as folks could actually read what the hell these idiots were planning- basically Stalin style government command and control of the economy only on steroids. The other way to do it was to turn EPA loose to do it's thing. This was actually widely recognized at the time as an even shittier option if you can believe that. The sales pitch for Lieberman Warner was literally "you REALLY don't want EPA to do it". Now somewhere along the way somebody realized that NHTSA in DOT already had a CAFE program in light duty. Maybe we should just expand that to medium and heavy duty also and let DOT figure it out. Heck, they've been doing it since about 1975 already and so far there's been no great screaming and rending of garments. So they added a simple piece to a budget bill in 2009 that instructed NHTSA to do just that, I got one of the 2 positions they advertised for and the rest is history. After spending the better portion of 11 months touring the country trying to figure out how to regulate what had never been regulated before, EPA called us up for a meeting and laid out their plan to take over the whole light duty thing through the regulation of CO2 and we'd just invert the standards to handle our end of it and put out exactly the same thing. Nobody (even me) could come up with a counter argument so that was agreed to. Easy peasy. Then on the Thursday before my one year anniversary, my boss retired and took Friday as a vacation day. Then at noon on Friday the guy who had hired in with me called me down to HR and told me I either had to quit or be fired. I quit, got about 45 minutes to pack my stuff, was escorted out, took the Metro (carrying my heavy box) to Vienna where my wife had to leave work early and come pick me up in the rain. The end result was about a year and a half of unemployment and eventual bankruptcy. And despite loud mouthed idiot liberals without a brain cell in their bodies, there still isn't a physically workable solution to Climate Change TM and EPA is still on the warpath to enhance their careers through genocide. Any wonder why so many real people loathe them?
