I had the day off (They sent me home -- too many days it a row (14), they said). So I walked 4 miles in the woods with IceSha (and Dar), bought, loaded and unloaded 100 bags of mulch, got a haircut, and did a slight modification to the mail jeep. Now I'm going to clean 1,000 rubber bands out of it.

At least for the haircut you got to sit down.

Just got back from our big Nebraska-Colorado-Nebraska trip. Whew! Dodged death again, plus 30-35mph tailwinds across NE and SD. Drove by Lar’s home town of Marquette which is about eight miles south of Pat’s home town of Central City where he went to high school. Some before and after pictures of the front sidewalk. ,

Lunch was a success. The restaurant, which we had never been to was a Chinese place that did only takeout for a very long time due to the pandemic. They only re-opened for dine-in in January. Many friends said that the place was great pre-pandemic, but none of them had been back yet. I'd say it was good, but not great. But they have quite a variety of dishes that I would try for dinner. Our first experience with Lyft went well. We got picked up within a few minutes for both rides. Drivers were good, cars clean. Not too hard to figure out how to use the app. I may give up driving. No, not yet, but that day will come. And since Mr. H drives very little, it was a nice experience for me to not have to drive for once. Cost us about $11 each way to go 5 miles, plus a $3 tip. My wife and I have used both Uber and Lyft on trips to Chicago, once after parking the car at our hotel upon arrival and once after taking Amtrak from Indianapolis. I thought they were great for getting around a large city we don't know. If we had been able to find our destination by driving ourselves the parking at the destination would have cost more than the ride.

Greetings from Montreal! We are here with my daughter and a friend of hers who will be given a tour of McGill University later this morning. We have been here for a couple of days and have been enjoying ourselves immensely. It is a lovely city to wander, and with about a quarter of the population of New York, not crowded. Nor is there a trace of hostility in people, even on the Metro. We have done some thrift shopping and have had some amazing food and some not so great. I can say that in the future, I may never make much of an effort to seek out poutine... but my Formula-1-racing fan of a daughter got to walk the track on which they hold the Montreal Formula 1 race.
This sounds great! My experience is that motorists around Montreal drive like they are F1 racers! Just out of curiosity, did you two fly up there or take a train, or what?
There are four of us. My family and daughter's HS friend. We had a tour of McGill U yesterday. Impressive. We have had a good time here and will be flying back this afternoon. We wanted to take the train, but it didn't resume service pre-pandemic until April 4, and we had to firm up our plans sooner than that. The drivers here seem to be polite and civilized. Everyone we have met has been super-friendly, including the recently retired couple who stopped to inform us of a terrible fire that burned a month ago in an unauthorized Airbnb, in a very old building. I like it here.

So the prospective McGill student is your daughter's friend? I would be a little... discombobulated if I had a child who wanted to go to school in another country. Even if it was Canada. It just seems so far away, like a whole other country. I mean, after graduation I would probably brag to others about it (accomplishment by association) but during I'd be on pins and needles.

Both girls wanted to see the school. I think that, by car, Montreal is 381 miles from us. The distance from us to Buffalo, for example, is approximately 382 miles. Don't let the border throw ya, John. McGill seems to be an awesome university, and it has a rockin' engineering department, which is my daughter's interest. But, it is only the first U she has looked at, and she is still a sophomore. There will be other school tours here in the good ole US of A.
And Montreal is a lot safer than many cities here—and McGill students have a WalkSafe and DriveSafe program, whereby female students can be escorted home at night.
BTW, we're back home, safe and sound, if tuckered out.
