We have quite few Burmese places here -- I especially enjoy Boat Noodle Soup. The food at this place was very good. We enjoyed it.
What did you have? Was it Rangoon in Chelsea? |

Wife cooked last night, so japanese style. Soba (cold), saba (blue mackerel--had to look that a up), spinach with katsuo-boshi, right and left of that are grilled eggplant w/ground ginger, and wife's fav, daikon-oroshi, which goes in the liquid/dip for the noodles.  |

Well, Bill, as long as you're asking, it was the Rangoon outpost that recently opened in our neighborhood in Brooklyn. Just made the list of New York's 100 Best Restaurants in the Times, you know, that broadsheet for the wealthy and privileged.
Here's what we shared:
Oysters (We shared a half dozen.)
"Bad Boys" Nova Scotia
Raw Oysters on half shell served with tamarind mignonette and Burmese cocktail sauce.
Pork Lettuce Wraps (Don't tell my rabbi about any of this.)
"Wett Thar Htoke"
Mushroom, house chili sauce
Mango Shrimp Salad
"Thayet Thee Thoke"
Mango slices, boiled shrimp, onion, cucumber, shallot oil, dry shrimp floss, coriander, fresh chili
Spicy Masala Beef
"Amethar Kabab Hinn"
Spiced ground beef, tomato, chili, potato, coconut rice
Burmese Style Coffee (only one coconut custard dessert today, not appealing)
"Coffee Cho Sait"
Condensed milk
We sat in the enclosed outdoor shed, and were the only ones; indoor space is small and was noisy—full of 20 and 30-somethings shouting at each other over the music. Space heater under each pair of two-seater tables. We were able to have a civilized dialogue and the sound of rain on the Plexi roof was pleasant. Food was great, service friendly and efficient. Would definitely return sometime.
