So, I'm playing my Gibson last night, marveling at how wonderful it sounds when I've got a little bit of fingernails. My wife comes home and I stand up to say hi - as I'm moving the guitar from seated to standing positions, I put a four inch gouge in the top of the guitar, from the waist to the soundhole, with my RH middle finger. )(*%&$_@!#+&+#&%@+!#%)(*!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, it's character, but this guitar already has 100 years of character built in.
I'm gonna take it in to Mass Street to see what they can do. I'm not sure what Gibson was using for finish back in 1907, probably some sort of shellac or laquer or varnish. But I don't want to fix it - I just want to make it look like my last-night gouge happened about 75 years ago.

Ewwww.....John. Such a potty mouth. Sorry to hear that. My son is coming in Monday from Manhattan. He says he won't be able to take my Guild in to Lawrence, But I think he just wants me to come. ;D I'm still working on it, but Barb won't be back until Sunday. She asked me the other night what I wanted for Christmas. I sang her a tune..... "All I want for Christmas is a neck reset, a neck reset, a neck reset....."

Try a little nose oil, John. Seriously. Bill is right John. Rub your finger beside your nose, you will feel the oily area. Rub the oil on the area you want to age.

Thanks - you're saving me a 90-mile round trip drive. Now I just gotta convince my wife that rubbing my nose on the guitar is a good thing.

I can think of nicer places I'd like to rub my nose.....but a nice guitar is OK, too.

When I saw the thread title I immediately assumed you *broke* a nail. Just an automatic reflex I guess!

Actually j, I did too.
But in light of what he did, he may have cut then all off by now......or chewed them.

What are your nails made of? Kryptonite? I go to a salon monthly to have them diamond-coated.

Thank God you weren't picking your nose. It would have been a very different story you'd be telling us next week after your hospital release, had you lived.
