...I was paying attention during these events--not obsessively, but not snoozing, either-- and I see no reason to change my view of them.) AH HAH! Of course not. And you just confirmed the point I hadn't gotten around to making yet, that you viewed these events as they occurred objectively and fairly... and not through a right-skewed ideological prism. So you really have no objective reason to change your original view as it holds up to both time and reflection. (as a courtesy, I thought I would provide the expansion your concluding thought called for, saving John the time and trouble, thoughtful forum citizen I am.)

Does it matter to you if he actually committed the crimes of which he is accused? Of course it matters. And it also matters that the Obama administration did things significantly more criminal* in their attempt to sink the Trump candidacy and subsequent administration -- and that's what is at issue for the person who's tweet Trump retweeted at the center of the opening post's subject. *More criminal because it was a crime against the American electoral system and not a simple matter of tax evasion.
It has come to my attention that at one point during the 2016 campaign, Obama and Trump had a meeting during which Obama said to Trump, "Pull my finger." Now THAT was a dirty trick.

They've learned that the Democrats play hardball. Oh for cryin' out tears--did you notice the GOP's behavior under Mitch McConnell? Or that of the Freedom Caucus through all of Biden's administration? Or at how GOP-dominated state legislatures have treated voting laws? The GOP has been an alley-fighting outfit at least since Newt Gingrich and Lee Atwater. And I write this as the great-grandson of a GOP bagman. I'm not up on rhetoric, but it appears that you're pulling a "whataboutism" by pointing at something else as a distraction.

It's not a whatabout argument to observe that many of my fellow citizens have their heads up their asses.
If the "they" in "They've learned that the Democrats play hardball" refers to a "segment of deporables" who are shocked, shocked I tell you that politics is not a friendly game of gin rummy, then it's about time they read some history or at least did some Googling to compensate for their failure to pay attention to real-time events. What's deplorable is buying into long-con propaganda campaigns designed to play on fear and resentment and cultural narrowness.

Y'all are just stoking the high I'm still on from the last Supreme Court term.
I imagine the democrat death throes will only become louder as we go.
Mt. Rushmore, baby. Mt. Rushmore for Trump!

It makes no sense:
Biden's confused dithering gave Trump a path to the White House as wide as a LA Freeway. All he has to do is moderate his mouth and stop saying crazy shit. Instead he keeps playing footsie with white militia types and would-be Nazis. He has the loony fringe in his pocket, all he needs to do now is mumble safe, conservative platitudes and he is in, in, in! What is wrong with him?
And the Democrats, what the hell are they doing? Biden's confused dithering is all over social media. It can't be unseen or undone. It can't be explained away as a bad hair day. And spouting nonsense like "Oh, he is Sharp as a Tack when no one can see him. You should see him then!" isn't going to work with any swing voter, especially young Swing Voters in the Swing States. It all just sounds like desperate lying to any ears that aren't solid Blue.
The D's need to understand that every voter is wondering, "Who and what is Kamala Harris?" All voters realize that a vote for Biden will really be a vote for Kamala Harris... sooner or later.
So, what are the Democrats doing with Harris to assuage these swing voters who have Kamala questions? They have her out on the road doing silly shit like "street talking" with her "street sisters" and selling reproductive rights over and over and over to a group of voters that need absolutely no selling. (That's as dumb as Trump's coy coziness with white nationalists.)
Independent swing voters, the voters that will swing the election, don't want to see Sister Kamala talking Street to her Street Sisters. They want to know if she has any sense. Show off the rest of Kamala. The Kamala that went to top flight schools and became a razor sharp lawyer. Show off the attorney general Kamala who threw asses in jail rather than issuing apologies for the "system" and yammering about restorative justice. Introduce us to Kamala's economically reassuring rich as fuck investment banker husband. Get her out of the silly pandering role you've assigned her. Show her teeth! She is the real candidate, not Biden.
Both campaigns are playing to the folks they already have. They should be reassuring those that they don't.
