Passed at age 94. One of the greatest comics ever.

I loved his first two tv shows. #2 had one of the best endings in tv history. My dad was a fan as well. Something we shared.

I loved his shows and the second one ended with the greatest final scene of all time. Funny, funny guy.

I've been watching The Librarian series the last few nights with Bob Newhart, Jane Curtin and Dan Akyroyd. Bob is still Bob right to the last.

Sure he was good -- 'cause he was stealing Mr Maisel's material.

One of his best routines, I thought, was the driver instructor bit.

Sure he was good -- 'cause he was stealing Mr Maisel's material. I humbly admit to not understanding that comment. When I first heard Newhart’s routines, I thought he was just a cheap Shelly Berman imitator. Boy was I wrong. Newhart took comedy farther in every way. A true giant in his field.

I talked to Bob in a bookstore at Water Tower Place in Chicago. He was with his wife. Nice guy.

Sure he was good -- 'cause he was stealing Mr Maisel's material. I humbly admit to not understanding that comment. The Marvelous Mrs Maisel's circuitous route to becoming a stand up comic started because her husband was a stand up comic wannabe who would go to open mics and do his thing. Mrs Maisel heard her husband's act, but one day she happened to hear Bob Newhart. She was furious that Newhart had stolen her husband's act... until, of course, she finally realized that her husband had been memorizing Newhart's act and passing off as his own.

You got ChatGTI. Or else just ask Todd. I only ask such questions if I care, or am even just a little curious. Mrs. Maisel doesn’t fit that category.

Well, she's from Iowa, plays bluegrass, and has a standing offer of one million dollars for an experienced bluegrass duo to join her for her upcoming European tour. Fiddle player must also be able to sing both lead and harmony. Guitar player must have a Martin and project a seasoned, been around the block and back, vibe. Nothing flashy, just good old music.

One of his best routines, I thought, was the driver instructor bit. I think I remember that routine, from a Bob Newhart record my folks had. I remember comedians having records, which seems strange these days. Anyway, I loved him. Both shows, although the second one was much better. Not because of him, but because of the characters he was surrouded by.

I think I remember that routine, from a Bob Newhart record my folks had. I remember comedians having records, which seems strange these days. From AP: Newhart got into comedy after he became bored with his $5-an-hour accounting job in Chicago. To pass the time, he and a friend, Ed Gallagher, began making funny phone calls to each other. Eventually, they decided to record them as comedy routines and sell them to radio stations. Their efforts failed, but the records came to the attention of Warner Bros., which signed Newhart to a record contract and booked him into a Houston club in February 1960. ''A terrified 30-year-old man walked out on the stage and played his first nightclub,'' he recalled in 2003. Six of his routines were recorded during his two-week date, and the album, ''The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart,'' was released on April Fools' Day 1960. It sold 750,000 copies and was followed by ''The Button-Down Mind Strikes Back!'' At one point the albums ranked No. 1 and 2 on the sales charts. The New York Times in 1960 said he was ''the first comedian in history to come to prominence through a recording.''

RIP
I always liked the way he incorporated his original comedy schtick into the sitcoms.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel was a pretty good TV show. At least if you didn't live through the late 50's and early 60's. Life might have been different from what was portrayed in the series. epaul, you might have been thinking of ChatGTO. You want the road-racing class version.
