It pretty much lacks the amiable tone of the half-hour or so of the Rowe interview I managed to sit through When the backbone of a belief system relies heavily on dehumanizing folks who think differently, it's hard to watch them appearing to be reasonable and even a tad winsome. It's easier when they can remain the monsters so skillfully imagined.

The fact that a charming and articulate guy can have less-charming ideas and attitudes is nothing new. I'm not dehumanizing Hanson, I'm just not mistaking good manners for good thinking.

I'm not sure if "agrees with you" is an honest standard for "good thinking".

When lab rats are mentioned I always think of a weird guy that worked in a lab I was in that invented a way to kill white rats when it was their time.
He made a little guillotine that he positioned at the end of an empty soup can open at both ends.
When placed on the table the rat would immediately go into one end of the can and stick It’s head out the other end into the device. That was its demise.
Not sure what the moral is but there probably is one.
