I might be interested in camping there, but not really interested in bringing/checking any gear on the plane with me. Are there pictures or any info about it available on the web?

Swale (plural swales)- A low tract of moist or marshy land.
- A long narrow and shallow trough between ridges on a beach, running parallel to the coastline.
- A shallow troughlike depression that's created to carry water during rainstorms or snow melts; a drainage ditch.
- A shallow, usually grassy depression sloping downward from a plains upland meadow or level vegetated ridgetop.
Lowell's Swale is the last definition. MAP FROM THE CORRIDOR INN TO LOWELL'S SWALE (I hope) Todd or Mark, please let me know if the flood created detours; I will adjust the map accordingly.Lars, Joy (Fiddlerina), Mark (Dub Martin), Don #? (Cornflake) First row: one of the shepherds, Jesse, RJ's son Dan, RJ, Lars, Mark, Chris, the other shepherd. Second row: Rachel, Alan, David, Kate, me, Marshall, Joy, Kari, and Doug. Third row: Marty Brian, Jerry, Don P., Lowell, Jim, Dennis, Todd, Fred, Don P. Kim is not in the picture. Don#? (Tamarack), Katherine (Sekhmet), Todd (VI) The camping area is big, just over Don's shoulder; actually, it might be over Katherine's shoulder. No amenities other than everyone who is camping there, and a fire pit. And Lowell's family and dogs (very big amenity). Too many people to list. Too many people to list. Same here. If you look in the library section of this forum you'll find many pictures taken at the swale. The (swell) swale was christened as such by Bill and the name stuck. It isn't actually a proper swale, it's a large grassy depression formed by quarrying limestone at one end. There is a limestone wall at the deep end marking the limit of the quarry operation. The owner, Lowell, has built an open outdoor stage using the limestone wall as a backdrop. It's pretty cool (and swell). - Dub On edit: I see John B linked the photos while I was busy composing.

Lowell lets us pitch a tent on his lawn.
In the large group picture, where John identifies himself as the one in pink, I'm the one with grey hair.

Perhaps one of the folks driving in has a tent they could bring for your use. Then you'd just need a bag and pillow. If not, there are some dandy one-man rigs these days. www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Category___45752__?002=2176235&004=544862614&005=1506709084&006=1304128444&007=Search&008=I have the MSR Hubba. It's pricy, but an excellent tent. Because it's completely free standing, I now take it with me to Africa and use it on the bed as a very reiable mosquito net of sorts.

I have gear. I have a large "two room" tent most of us could stand up in and a Timberline "two person" wilderness tent really suitable only for one person. I also have sleeping bags and Therm-a-Rest pads, a light and stuff like that. I can probably come up with a bunch more stuff as well. - Dub

I actually downloaded that shot of Sekh's last night, cropped it jpegized it and made it about 700 pixels wide so I could post it and identify everyone. I started to make a version where it's just translated into outlines so I could key everyone by number but I never got an outline image I liked and ran out of time. - Dub

Kate is teensier than I imagined. Shouldn't a goddess be, like, 10 feet tall?

John B, I think you actually got Don the Tamarack labeled as me and me listed as Don Clark, but the confusion is understandable. There are a lot of Dons.

John B says:
I'm not sure if there will be a detour or not. At least we're to the point where it's an easy detour, if there will be one.
I need to offer apologies for not being around much during these Ijam threads. The flood in June still has things screwed up, including email, and reliability of the internet as a whole. I recieve emails, but can't seem to send them out. If anyone sends me an email with a question I'll get it, and reply via personal message on this forum. I'll send my cell phone number in a personal message as well.
Damn flood, anyway.
