We’re supposed to get 94% eclipse. I don’ t plan on looking at it. Glasses are sold out. But I’m interested to see if stars are visible. I've heard that welding masks work just fine, if you have one of those.

I'm bringing [to gathering at seester's tomorrow] a box of wine and about $100 worth of Old Southern BBQ ribs and cornbread muffin tops. Everyone will be especially nice to me. Just back from Old Southern, where I encountered a New Frontier in Cluelessness. The 20-something gent waiting on me rang up the ribs, and then I ordered a dozen muffin tops, to which he replied, "How many is a dozen?" I wish I were making this up, but nope.

Bill, I too have been looking at new tires, BF Goodrich Wranglers. Not overly expensive but good all weather and not too noisy on the highway. Bill likes very quiet Touring tires with good road grip for playing zoom zoom on the backroads. My new Goodrich GForce Comp2's feel great, smooth, quiet and grippy. I'll learn a lot more in the twisties of Cheeseland tomorrow. Discount Tire did the whole package -- mounting, balancing, tire disposal, new pressure sensors, taxes -- for $750, which was considerably cheaper than what I paid for the Bridgestones I had on there. Supposedly, they'll match any price you can find anywhere. I had to stand in line for 15 mins to get waited on, but they had the car back to me in 45 mins, so it worked out fine. On edit, they also give veterans a 5% discount, which is modest but still appreciated.

Yogurt consumed, pills taken and soon I will head out to get new tires on Blue Beauty. Most people would regard that as a chore, but I've been looking forward to it all week, knowing the sweet old gal will joyfully dance and sing in her new black pumps. Two-lane Sconnie blacktop beckons tomorrow as I head east for a belated Easter celebration at seester's place -- I'm bringing a box of wine and about $100 worth of Old Southern BBQ ribs and cornbread muffin tops. Everyone will be especially nice to me.

My 2012 KIA Sorento, as of today, has 214,326 miles (just took off the snow tires). 214,326 miles, no rust, goes 5,000 miles between oil changes, runs like top, exterior paint is clean and sharp, interior fabric and fittings clean and solid. It is one hell of remarkable car. Have you been alerted to this from the NHTSA? Hyundai Motor America and Kia America have issued “park outside” recalls for more than 3.3 million vehicles due to the risk of fire. Until these recalled vehicles have been repaired, the manufacturers say the safest place to park them is outside and away from homes and other structures. Fires can occur whether the vehicle is parked and turned off or while driving. Owners of the approximately 1.64 million select Hyundai and Genesis vehicles listed below should park their vehicles outside and away from homes until their vehicles have been repaired, due to a new recall for the risk of fire. Hyundai’s safety recall (NHTSA ID: 23V-651000) applies to the following vehicles and model years: 2012-2015 Accent, 2012-2015 Azera, 2011-2015 Elantra, 2013-2015 Elantra Coupe, 2014-2015 Equus, 2011-2015 Genesis Coupe, 2013-2015 Santa Fe, 2013 Santa Fe Sport, 2011-2015 Sonata HEV, 2010-2013 Tucson, 2015 Tucson Fuel Cell, 2012-2015 Veloster and 2010-2012 Veracruz. Owners of the approximately 1.73 million select Kia vehicles listed below should also park their vehicles outside and away from homes until their vehicles have been repaired. Kia’s safety recall (NHTSA ID: 23V-652000) applies to the following vehicles and model years: 2014-2016 Cadenza, 2011-2013 Forte/Forte Koup, 2015-2017 K900, 2010-2015 Optima, 2011-2013 Optima Hybrid, 2011-2017 Rio, 2010 Rondo, 2011-2014 Sorento, 2011-2013 Soul and 2010-2013 Sportage. The vehicle’s anti-lock brake system module could leak brake fluid internally and cause an electrical short. An electrical short could result in significant overcurrent in the ABS module, increasing the risk of an engine compartment fire while driving or parked.

The nice man on the radio just mentioned two celebrity birthdays -- Jane Goodall (chimps, not guitars) is 90 today and Marlon Brando is 100, both of them alive! Bill, editorial intervention: Brando died in July of 2004, age 80. Wow, did I hear it that wrong? Or did the announcer screw up? Stand by. On edit, it is indeed his 100th birthday, just that he's not here to celebrate it. Mr. Hammond regrets the error.

Hey Tam, I do a poor version of Donovan’s Sand and Foam. He really had some amazing songs. I'm guessing you meant Ken, not Tam?

AP excerpt:
TORONTO — Comedian Joe Flaherty, a founding member of the beloved Canadian sketch series ''SCTV,'' has died. He was 82.
His daughter Gudrun said Tuesday that Flaherty died Monday following a brief illness.
Flaherty, who was born in Pittsburgh, spent seven years at The Second City in Chicago before moving north of the border to help establish the theater's Toronto outpost.
He went on to star alongside John Candy and Catherine O'Hara in "SCTV,″ about a fictional TV station known as Second City Television that was stacked with buffoons in front of and behind the cameras. Flaherty's characters included network boss Guy Caballero and the vampiric TV host Count Floyd.
Former castmates also included Martin Short, Eugene Levy, Dave Thomas and Andrea Martin.
He won Emmys in 1982 and 1983 for his writing on ''SCTV'' and continued to work in TV and film for decades.

I was using my new adaptive cruise which keeps you a predetermined distance behind the car ahead of you but resumes the preset speed when you pull out to pass. Of course this often insures a creeping pass. There sure are a lot of folks out there bound and determined to get every penny's worth out of their adaptive cruise. I've never driven a car with adaptive cruise, but one feature of standard cruise control that many drivers seem unaware of is that you can use the gas pedal to make a speedy pass of, say, a semi, with a throng of left-lane traffic rapidly approaching, pull back into the right lane after the pass, let off the gas pedal and the cruise setting resumes control. Stomping on the gas pedal does NOT cancel a cruise setting as a brake application does.
