Hi Omaha.
Just setting a little guitar trap to make you feel right at home.
(to others, this is a teasing threat. Not a Ovation bashing thread. Players make music on guitars, and there is as much music in an Ovation as there is in any other guitar. Yea, Charley, you done good. Thanks for the guitars.)

"[T]there is as much music in an Ovation as there is in any other guitar." Except Carvins, maybe.
I still play my Ovation, but I don't consider myself a real guitarist.

We do have an Ovation mandolin at home. It's got really easy action and it sounds OK acoustically and very good plugged in. My daughter started playing it a bit this summer and I taught her some easy chords and a few songs that she likes. She wants a mando for her birthday now. My mando is a Tacoma so we've got two very non-traditional mandolins. I've also had a cheap Kentucky that I sold to our church folk group leader and an old 1920's mandolin that I bought in an antique shop, played for a few years and then sold on eBAY.

The great thing about Ovations is that after the gig you can use them to hold your bait when you go fishing.

Well, I, for one, don't see why anyone would want anything other than a natural wooden guitar.

Um...because they suck at holding bait. Duh.

Bill's guitar will hold bait AND you can paddle with it too.
It will even replace the rudder in a pinch.

I thought the main reason you bought a CA in Minnesota was because its bulletproof and protects you from drunk deer hunters.

I could do quite a bash of Ovation from a repairman's view point but I can also appreciate the engineering behind them. Charles Kaman designed a very playable guitar that amplified very well for it's day. I also see a bit of that design in the Taylor's of today.

The simple answer is that real guitarists play Gibsons.
And read music.

One of the coolest Ovations I've ever seen is the MOB series. It stands for "my other board," and it's designed as a beach guitar. The inlays are surboards. It's designed to be relatively beach-proof.

Me: Hi: My name is Greg
[Hi Greg]
Me: And I'm a closet Ovation player .
Facilitator: That's alright Greg, The first step to living a clean life is to admit that you have a problem. We're all very proud of you for sharing with us.
[polite applause from the other addicts at OOA (Ovation Owners Anonymous)]
Me: It's just that, well, the neck feels like an electric, It's really easy to play.
F: It's it Greg? Is it really? You're not constantly fighting the fact that the round back slides off of your lap every 30 seconds.
Me: Yeah, that's true. But I just wear a strap when I play it sitting down.
[Ooohhh!]
F: Greg, that's what we call "enabling your addiction". It's when you take extraordinary steps to try to make the addiction appear to be normal behavior. Let me ask you this: Do you wear a strap when you sit down to play your Breedlove?
Me: No
F: And let's talk about the sound. When you change the strings, how long does it take for an Ovation guitar to sound like it has dead strings again?
Me: Two, maybe three hours. I mean, if I'm not actually playing it.
F: And how log if you actually play it?
Me: Maybe 30 minutes.
F: Do you see what you're doing here Greg? You're enduring days or weeks of painful dead tone for that one 30 minute rush of pleasure. That's the behavior of an addict.
Me: But Al DiMeola plays them and he was so cool in the 80's.
F: Parachute pants, shoulder pads and Depeche Mode were cool in the 80's. Face it Greg, as guitars go, an Ovation is a good snow shovel.
Me: Oh man, I've got it bad. I need help.
F: That's why we're here Greg. That's why we're here.
Don't let this happen to you or your children. Learn to recognize the early stages of Ovation ownership. Do you hear weird plunking noises coming from your child's amplifier? Do your kids claim that their Ovation guitar is really just a large salad bowl or a Tupperware container for their lunch? Does your child's guitar have too many sound holes?
We have the power to stop this epidemic. Won't you help by making a tax deductible contribution to OOA today? Your ears will thank you.

Kaki makes up for it by playing Chapman Stick for The Blue Man Group in New York.
And she's cute.
