I just returned from a cousin's funeral in South Texas. While there, I visited a ranch house that is currently owned by a seventy-something relative. Near the house is this old structure. My relative told me that he remembered using it in the 1940s. It was referred to as "the necessary," he said. I remember the ranch house well, though not the necessary. While there, my brother and I visited another ranch house on a plot of land my father bought after World War II. It was the locale for our earliest memories. My brother told me that it, too, had a necessary until sometime in the fifties. I didn't remember one way or the other.

You know, I always wondered about the sliver moon motife on outhouse doors. In the military, the sliver moon denotes "rations." I can see the connection. It's alimentary, really.

Find "reply" at the bottom of the previous post and hit it. You'll see among the options a picture frame, I think. If you click that you'll get . Insert the URL of your picture between the middle brackets, i,e., url . Then sing the Star Spangled Banner at the top of your lungs.
