Can someone give me thoughts why this Martin guitar would be having finish separation on the neck where the ebony meets the the wood on the neck on the top of the fret board. It's like an air bubble and I can move it. Just started about a month ago and is getting worse. Any help would be great. Thanks

Welcome, fingerpickerdude. Glad you found us. Most of the action here is in the Café forum so be sure to post over there so everyone else can give you a proper welcome. I recently acquired a 2004 Martin HD-28CW that has developed the same problem. Mine is on the heel of the neck (treble side) close to the heel cap. I've never seen anything like it before. One of our members here (Marty) is an excellent luthier and instrument repair man who operates out of Minneapolis' famed Podium guitar store. I intend to visit with Marty about the problem as soon as I can. I posted the year of my guitar since it may be some problem they had in 2004 and no longer have. I've wondered if the Mahogany they used was too green or too oily or whether they were having some formulaic problem with their finish. It's a strange looking bubble and at first I thought there might be some plastic coating that hadn't been removed. But I finally decided it was the finish. If no one pops in to help us identify the problem, I'll bring it up in the Café forum. - Dub

I would suggest you visit www.umgf.comthere are a few areas to check out regarding where to post. The D 28 lounge, the Log Cabin, Technical Information. They talk nothing but Martin but I would highly suggest you post some pictures or they will not be able to help you anymore than on many other sites. Good luck.

Not a uncommon problem. Ebony doesn't take finish well and this is compounded by the finish ending at the edge of the fingerboard. The problem can be cured by painting a little solvent at the edge of the lifting finish. If solvent doesn't work then some water thin super glue should do the job. Have this done by a repair-person, mistakes can be costly.

I don't know exactly what fingerpickerdude is describing but the bubble on the heel of the neck on my HD-28CW isn't anywhere near the fretboard and is away from any joint. Just a bubble about an inch and a half long. - Dub
