For those of you that have a Digital SLR, do you clean your own CCD's or do you have a repair shop service them. I'm tired of seeing the fuzzies on my photo's.

I have read where people have used air guns to clean, but I sent mine in as it needed maintenance anyway as I was having problems with my card reader.

What's a CCD, philen? If you mean the sensor, it's worth learning how to do it yourself because it's expensive to get it done.

Cornflake, yes it is the sensor that sits behind the shutter where the film used to be in a film SLR. ( called a Charge-coupled device ) I have seen a couple of sites on the internet where you can buy a kit to clean it yourself. I live about 60 miles from the nearest camera shop. I've also read where the sensor is extremely delicate and very easy to scratch....basically ruining the camera if I mess up.
I was just wondering if anyone here cleans their own and could offer some tips on the procedure and where to get supplies.
A can of Air might get the loose dust off, but some sites did not recommend using compressed air. Mine also has small water rings on the sensor, I guess from taking the camera outside in the humidity without a lens attached to the body.

Jerry, pardon the slow response. I don't know the answer. My sensor got dirty once and the guy at the photo store cleaned it for free, so I didn't learn anything.
Make sure it really is the sensor. If it is, the same spots will show up regardless of which lens you use.

I wouldn't mess with it. Camera shop is the best plan I think.
