The guy I thought was gonna buy that Marty-rehabbed Gibby didn't do so today.
I am telling you, if any of you have $800 to spend on a great 1969 guitar that has been brought up to 2009 standards in terms of playability, tone, intonation and cool looks, this one is a no-brainer.

Thanks for the plug Bill.
A few specs on the old Gibby.
It had a loose top at the lower bout bass side. Two top cracks. A swayed neck, meaning the strings did not center down the neck. The neck was loose in the neck block. The mahogany bridge had the adjustable saddle that not only is lousy for intonation but sounds like crap too. I removed all the brass and steel then plugged the anchor holes with spruce. Bridge plate is rosewood and I installed a Plate Mate to keep the string balls from pulling through it. Tuners were dang hard to turn, oil didn't help much so I installed some Gotoh Kluson style. Frets are in pretty good shape and it shouldn't need a refret for a while yet. It's missing finish at a few places around the body but since it's plywood I'm not too worried about it. Skinny neck, 1 9/16 nut, short 24 3/4 scale. Comes with a hardshell case.
I will let this post stay in the Cafe for a day but it really belongs in For Sale so I will move it soon.

1969 B-15 B-15s are listed as ladder braced but mine is X braced. I think Gibson got a lot of orders for B-15 models and few for B-25 models so they used B-25 tops that they had already braced to make the 15s. Laminate mahogany B&S so it's heavier than one expects. I repaired a top crack and a swayed neck,* made a new Honduran rosewood bridge so it will play in tune and put on good tuners. Not a photo of my guitar but one just like it. * Old bridge was made of mahogany.

The thing about this guitar is that it sounds and plays way better than it ever did new, just like Marty's rehabbed Harmony models, only this one has "Gibson" on the headstock, which is way more likely to cause hot young dollies to approach you and, without warning, drop trou. And I always enjoy that, myself.

I own a '96 Les Paul Standard. Lately, when I take that one out to the clubs, the hot young dollies ask, "Whatthefuckisthat? Where is your cargo!?"
::sigh:: The girls just don't appreciate my wood anymore.

The folks that asked me not to put the B-15 in Podium inventory until they had a chance to look at it never showed up so today it will get listed as inventory. I will have Kevin take photos and maybe do a MP3.
