My daughter went into labour this morning with her second child. If he/she is born tomorrow it will be on Alicia's birthday-who was also born on HER mother's birthday! What are the odds of three successive generations sharing the same birthday, I wonder?

Not sure about the odds for the same birthday but think of the savings of having one birthday cake.

We came very close last year... my father and I share a birthday, and my son was born tantalizingly close... two more days and it would've been the same day... November 1, November 1, October 29 for the three generations...
Congrats, but if you get into the Guiness book or something, I'm gonna be jealous!!!!

That multi-generation same-birthday thing isn't as strange as it appears at first blush. Many cultures have a National Sex Your Wife Up Day. Since that NSYWUD remains the same for centuries in some cultures, not only do generations within families often share the same birthday (or very close), but entire nations often share the same birthday. The entire populaiton of the nation of Zimbrolio shares a June 3 birthday. And a really big cake.
Similarly...
...it's a well know phenomenon that many women who live in close proximity to one another start to share menstual cycles at the same time. What research is just now beginning to show us is that women also, and just as often, share the same "headache" cycle.
New calculations show that the typical woman, with the typical menstrual cycle reducing the probability of pregnancy for about 120 out of the 365 days of a year, and her headache cycle easily cancelling 244 of the remaining 245 days, really only have one day of possibly getting pregnant.
....and if you've followed the math so far...
...you must see that it's just not that unusual at all. The thing that is unusual at all is pregnancy. Actually, the thing that is unusual at all is sex.
I can't believe there are still people who doubt the virgin birth.

Still waiting... It's 3.00pm GMT now, they tried inducing her with a pill of some sort which hasn't worked. I just spoke with her partner and they'll be trying something else this afternoon. This is worse than waiting for Big Brown to bring your new guitar!
