Uh...I dunno...it sounds as if Loop is a fan. Don, stretch out your arm and let us measure the angle between your forearm and hand....jus checkin here...not saying anything. FWIW, I always cheer for the SEC against Yankee teams.

Well, I was happy with FSU being picked, but it doesn't mean I thought it was right. It was also pretty apparent that we didn't belong in that game, as all we could muster for a score was a crappy safety with a few minutes left in the game.
It's not *that* Florida got in, it's that it blindsided Michigan with a last-minute change in the standings. They got hosed, and hosed BAD.
The BCS system is so flawed, I can't believe they even use it. Why can Tressel just "decide" he didn't want to vote this time around. If you are chosen to vote in the coaches poll, you should vote every week, regardless. It has never been more evident than now, when a mere .0101 points separated Florida from Michigan. This small difference was the result of the human polls ranking Florida above Michigan while the computer polls had the two teams tied for second. One vote could have made the difference. Tressel probably thinks he made the right decision now, as Florida is a better matchup for his team.
The only way to determine a true champion is to have a playoff system, I am convinced. Otherwise, teams will keep getting shunned. Each year almost, they make changes to the system to try to make it better, but what happens in 10 years if it still is no better than it is now? Then do they scrap it? It reeks of stink and filth, and it needs to change, or else Tulane, Rutgers, Louisville, Tulane, and the teams in the smaller conferences will never get a chance, regardless of how well they play or what their record.

As a caveat, I'm not a huge fan of Division !-A football. I much prefer college football. If I want to watch pros, I reckon I could watch the NFL instead of the NFL Farm League. But, I see nothing wrong with the Bowl system SO LONG as folks quit pretending it determines some "national championship". There is no national champion in Division !-A. Just a lot of number crunching an lobbying by the farm teams for a mythical, and utterly meaningless "title".
I can live with their system, provided they stop pretending to have a "national championship". Those things can only be decided in some kind of playoff system, where the issue can be decided, not by sportswriters, coaches polls or computers, but by the teams in contention.
Division I-AA and II, and III have "national champions". The NFL Farm League has polls. As far as I'm concerned, the fans of Ohio State and Boise State have some legitimate arguments. But, arguments don't make national champions. The other teams just have poor arguments.

Being no longer a football fan, my reaction is limited to thinking that the game will be played twenty-five minutes' drive west of here, and I'll have to remember not to go anywhere near Glendale that day.

Nope, not a Gators fan, AlanC, actually a fan of one of their big rivals. I'm just calling it like I see it w/ regards to their place in the championship game. And I always keep the angle between my forearm as straight as possible--If you bend it too much when you fret chords, you'll end up with carpal tunnel syndrome. And Cribbs, I agree 100% with your assessment of the screwed-up BCS system. Sure, it's slightly better than the old way, in which almost every bowl game had built-in conference allegiances so that you rarely saw #1 play against #2 unless they happened to be in conferences pre-arranged to meet in a particular bowl game each year. But in taking one step forward, it's taken several steps backwards in that having a guaranteed #1 vs. #2 each year isn't worth crap if the differences between #2, 3, & 4 are so minute that any of them could have had a legitimate shot at winning it all. Meanwhile, The NCAA Division II playoffs just completed their second round. And everyone will be pleased to know that they'll have a champion decided in their 16-team tournament a full two weeks before OSU & Florida square off.

Well, I don't have a dog in the fight, apparently, as it will be about 30 years before the Noles put another competitive team on the field. So, I guess I'll make me a buckeye pie or something for the game. Those things are edible, right?

Oh, just screw those mucked-up BCS bowls. Ignore them. Instead, watch and root for those marvelous Golden Gophers of Minnesota as they do battle against someone or other in the one and only Insight Bowl.

I think we need to all chip in and buy Don a ticket to the game. He can bee the official TTT representative to the bowl game.
"This is Cornflake reporting live from the BCS Bowl. It's a real slug-fest, Cribbsy."
I suspect the networks and sponsors are happier. Nothing like having 2 teams from the same conference play each other to alienate the rest of the country.

But that would require cross-country airfare too, so I guess I'll have to wait until they hold a championship game somewhere in Aller-bammer. :-)
