Our friend and colleague, Howard, and his gracious and lovely wife have offered to put me up for the night on Thursday. I'll be passing through on my way to Jamaica and I have less than a day in the Republic of Brooklyn, but at some point - probably after the cornflakes and before Howard has to go to work - the WILL be a second Big Apple Jam!
I haven't seen Howard for over four years and I'm stoked.

Thanks VI - it was you and epaul's fond memories of the Newark hotels that frightened me off New Jersey!
Evan, I'll certainly pass that on to Howard. He is one of the good ones without a doubt.

Very cool. Howard is a class act. (As well as yourself).
I have fond memories of the First Big Apple Gathering.
Good times.

Frazer, please give the appropriate hugs all around. Like Marshall, I have such pleasant memories of our NYC gathering in 2002. It was so great to meet you then.

Man, I still remember that evening I got to spend playing with you and Howard and his buddies, after spending the afternnon with you at Mandolin Brothers. I still count that as one of the great days of my life. Wish I could be there. Y'all have fun!

So close to the Holler, and yet so far. I second everyone's thoughts Frazer - wish I could see you again.

Hello there. Frazer flagged me about this thread via e-mail, so I thought I'd poke my head in and say a big hearty hey to everyone. It's so odd to see all the kind words you've written—I feel like, are they writing about me? Anyway, I wish lots of you could visit, too. We have no cornflakes, alas, Frazer, but I was planning on making my famous lemon pancakes with some sort of fruit salad and breakfast protein on the side, doused in organic local maple syrup, washed down with generous servings of cappuccino (or PG Tips, if you'd rather). I will be using a few hours of PTO (paid time off) so that we may have a leisurely visit until it's time for you to leave for your flight. Since this seems to happen once every—four years, you say?—I figured five hours of vacation time is worth it to be able to hang out and catch up on the news as well as play guitar for awhile. Besides, I hate my freakin' job. Everyone's well here. Our beautiful little girl is two and a half, and recently began writing her own jokes. She's also been strumming her Sweet Pea mandolin and wants to play saxophone. She's doing two weekly mornings of pre-k, and she likes the new kid-music CD from Rani Arbo and Daisy Mayhem, "Rangy Tangy." RAaDM played in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden on Sunday, and we saw them there, then met Rani at the merch table. She's really nice, and has a great, firm handshake. Looking forward to Frazer's visit. We'll be creating a comfortable space for you in the living room, Frazer, with a view of the wooded berm across the road. So, have a safe trip over, and hug all the girls there before you start out (if you haven't already started out). I really think we're bearing down on the time for another Northeastern Gathering... Have a safe Halloween, all ghouls and goblins. And I think we do live near a bowling alley, VI.

At the airport ready to board in 30 mins - here I come, Howard! I'm bringing my bowling ball as carry-on luggage. Paid time off?!?!?! I love the concept.
Guys, I fully intend to get back for a proper visit to your fine country now that I'm going to be living in your hemisphere again. I'd really love to get to Pollywog Holler again. Gads, what a weekend that was! Shannon, what a nice thing to say! I have very fond memories of the Staten Island Ferry, Manod Bros and the jam, too. You don't get that many days in a lifetime. J, we WILL meet at some point, if only so you can wince at my playing. I'm looking forward so much to seeing your fixed grin ;-).
Cheers,
Frazer

Well, we just packed Frazer off in a taxi back to the airport. It was great to see him, albeit briefly. We had about enough time to share a couple of beers last night while we tried to catch up on major news, see some terrific videos this morning that his nine-year-old daughter made for him, eat a hearty breakfast, and give my guitars the once-over. It's still remarkable to me, after eight years, that AG and this forum have provided me with friends that I will probably know until I get old, who are as dear to me as anyone I grew up with.
My daughter had a great time meeting Frazer, and she even brought her guitar over to where we were sitting, playing, and sang "Pick Me Up on Your Way Down" for us.
Have a safe flight down, Frazer. It was great to be able to spend some time with you! We're glad you didn't have to spend the night at a Newark-area hotel (yeesh, what a thought).

Hi Howard,
Thanks so much for the great 12 hours! Hope is extremely cute and and clever and she's going to be such a famous singer-songwriter some day. Seriously, here's a lot of personality and talent there. And you're indoctrinating her with some very cool songs ;-).
I'm in jet lag limbo here in Kingston. I nearly didn't get into the country - my new employers neglected to provide me with a letter regarding my work permit and for a while there it looked as if I was going to be on my way back to Miami for a few days - not fun. There's more to the story and I'll tell you about it next time.
Cheers!
Frazer
