I've worn the same belt for over ten years. It's a good belt, thick leather, no frills. It disturbed me about 4 years ago when I realized I needed to buckle it at the second hole after using the third for most of it's life. Over the last couple years I've fluctuated between the third and second hole, but mostly using the third. The last few weeks I've noticed I can use the fourth hole. For a while I thought I was losing weight - but I think I've really just stretched the belt, or pushed that weight which resided where the belt rests to other locations, like a thin modern day corset. It still makes me feel better to delude myself that I'm losing weight, maybe some day I'll test the theory on a scale.

Why spoil a good thing by stepping on a scale?

I once knew a rotund man whose belt had stamped upon it a ruler (well, more like a 2-yard stick, I suppose). That made him look fat AND stupid.

"Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, Son." - Dean Wormer Dang. Three strikes and I guess I'm out.

I thought that's why God made sweatpants. No belts, no holes, no squeezing in here and popping out there, no flying shrapnel when things give way, ...

One of the perils of surgery is I have had to severly curtail my exercise routine. I've put on a few pounds, and am now squarely between belts. I'm too skinny for the "fat belt" and too fat for the "skinny belt." Good news is we go back on the road this weekend, and I always manage to lose 2-4 pounds on the road.

I used to work with a guy whose belt went around him twice. Apparently he was that fat and lost it with weight watchers but kept the belt. I've never been more than 160 and I'm 5'11" but I lost 15 while moving here 3 years ago just from packing and unpacking houses, cleaning and painting the old house for sale, skipping meals etc so we could get the whole move done in 2 months. I don't really recommend that regimen. That was all about 9 months after my tendon surgery Paul so you'll get stronger once you start using the arm again. I've gained about 10 of them back now from relative lack of activity and eating more regularly now.
