I don't know if this is political enough for this forum but does anyone know how the Youtube rating stars work? I noticed this morning that videos I made some of which had 4 or 5 stars all dropped to half stars or none. I don't know whether to take it personal or not. I looked at a couple of the insight files but don't see any ratings now. Do those things time-out after awhile if no one has rated a video in the recent past? There were still views but no ratings. Just wondering if this is normal or I pissed somebody off, which is always possible. I haven't been at this very long. I was surprised that I got good ratings so I'm not surprised I've lost them. I just don't know how it works.
Any ideas?

I just looked at my page and I have the same thing: I now rate 1/2 of one star.
I think they're on to me.

Well, let's see. You invited me to this forum. Maybe someone's getting back at both of us.

I think if one person gives you five stars that is your rating. If the next person to rate the video gives it one star your rating drops to three with a total voting population of two. I wouldn't worry about ratings until a large number of people have rated them. Of course if you gave us links here, we could all pop over and give you five stars. - Dub

Your post isn't political enough. Try harder.

Actually, no government is involved in Bamfile's post at all, which means it's anarchy. I'm surprised Doug isn't all over this one.

It all Fox New's fault. Bastards, every damn one of them.

I've noticed the same glitch when I go to the "my videos" page. However if I follow up to the actual video, then I get the correct rating. Bam, I'll give you five stars if you do the same www.youtube.com/gfiore83

Your post isn't political enough. Try harder. Obama promised us all 5 stars unless we're making over $250k. Pelosi wants to take it a step further and add universal star care to the bill. But the freakin' Republicans are sitting on their asses and spreading rumors about deathstar panels and claiming that illegal aliens are supposed to get more stars than the rest of us. And Palin is breaking turkey necks and rambling on about Starcialism.

I wouldn't worry about ratings until a large number of people have rated them. So basically, we might as well go ahead and start worrying about ratings right now.

gfiore83, you have a deal. You also seem to still have your stars. Additionally I notice that you hold a classical guitar even more vertically than I do. What little I've been able to download sounded very nice.

Interesting, the list still doesn't show the stars but the individual videos do and now I have stars I never had before. So much for statistics. If anyone else needs more stars, just ask. I owe somebody. Basically, I guess Youtube's video list page is broken.

If you seriously want stars, it's pretty easy. Just visit lots of other people's page and leave them stars and nice comments. Do it whether you like their music or not. In no time at all you'll have lots of stars, views, and nice comments.
What you won't have is any idea of how many people went to your page because they were actually interested in your music.

I actually enjoyed the few bad comments I got. They were more informative.

Really? I got one, and I thought the guy was way off. I didn't know who he was or where he came from, nor have I heard from him since his one and only comment:
smeghead420 guitar is really atmospheric but your singing needs work to be honest, try singing it without the guitar
His was my first comment though, so I left it, wondering if it was going to get better, or if strangers would just pop in from time to time telling me I suck.

I got 2 about my phony Irish accent. I tried to drop it but I can't. Somebody said I had big knees as I recall. That may not have been on Youtube though.

I don't know about your accent, but I'd have to say that the guy who said your knees are too big was brilliant.
I wish I could think of smart things like that to say. If I could, I'd be leaving lots of youtube comments.
