Has anyone else come across the talking Walmart ad? I was just on the "active threads" listing and was told "Congratulations, you have been selected to receive a $1000 Walmart gift card." (Or something like that.)

The offer hasn't come back. I hope I didn't blow it.

I just got another one in the daily thread. All I have to do is click on the mystery banner to see what it is.
I didn't.

I was on eBay the other day and some item I checked out popped up with an audio track in which the seller began telling me about the item. I hit the mute button fast then clicked off the item. I was home with no one around. No reason to feel self conscious about the audio, I just hate unwanted audio. Some Web sites have automatic audio going in. Those are the sites I click off of the quickest. Sometimes MySpace pages start right out with music. Even though I may have gone there for the music, I want to read the page, look at available titles and get an idea of what might be there. If the page starts off with music, I'm gone. The same is true for Web sites with animated intros. If I can see a bypass link I may click through to the site but I think those intros are so rude I might click off, and never return, just because it had an intro program. Even a still cover page that holds no information but an invitation to "enter" is enough to send me away in many cases. Unwanted audio in ads really pisses me off. Sometimes, on a busy page, you'll accidentally brush the mouse pointer across some add that will trigger a talking head. Damn, I hate that. - Dub

Exactly - and for people who surf from work, it's a detriment. It's like pop ups - no one really wants pop up windows, so why annoy folks by creating them? Weird marketing.

I use Firefox as my browser and I don't see (or hear) any banner ads.

TV has had talking ads for some time now.
I was in California last week. Had to endure talking ads from the gas pump. Guess they figure they have you for a captive audience.

The last month has seen my calling card inserting an ad for health insurance in between my dialing its number and the prompt to enter the number I want to call.
WTF? I'm the one paying for the time on the card...
I will say that the ad is doing an awful lot towards making me want to buy an iphone.

I went to a movie the other day. Semed like we sat thru about ten minutes of ads before the previews. I was thinking, "I'm paying for this, to be pitched Coke and video games and consumer crap?"
What happened to the Road Runner and a newsreel?
