While I think that it's changed, I have been told by more than few guitar store owners that these twos songs are the ones they have heard in their stores most often, way too many times. (That and of course bad, screaming heavy metal noodling.)
And yes, I confess, I know them both. I still love the simple beauty of Blackbird. STH, well, every now and then I have to return to my youth.

Blackbird is a cool tune and I refuse not to play it!

None of the above. When I bought my current guitar, I noodled originals.

Also, none of the above. My two are Don't Think Twice and St. Louis Tickle.

None of the above. Although I have given some serious thought to taking some lessons so I can get all of the Guitar Center licks down. After all, I'm going to be in the store 40 hours a week, and I will eventually test out every guitar and bass in the store as I set them up.

Not only have I never played either, I couldn't even hum them for you. How do you do at Saturday Night Shuffle? - Dub

Didn't anybody play those tunes?
Anybody?
Anybody?
Bueller?
(I don't play either, either--I'm also a Freight Train/Railroad Bill/Don't Think Twice fingerpicker.)

When I started, the six-string guitar consisted of two rocks. (You had to supply your own roll.)

Never learned Stairway to Heaven
Learned Blackbird during the year when I took formal lessons. For some reason I often play Alice's Restaurant and then segue into Blackbird.

Done Blackbird forever....STH sucks. Had no less than 3 students working on it at the same time.....and they all came the same day for lessons.
I was thinking STH and Smoke on the Water were the most overplayed. Along with Sweet Home Alabama.

I was sitting on our terrace a few evenings ago and a blackbird landed in our neighbour's tree and began to sing.
So I brought my guitar out and played Blackbird to it.
Very nice.

Knew/know STH, Smoke on the Water, 25 or 6 to 4, Sweet Home Alabama, and a few other obnoxious ones. Learned Blackbird for our duo. Did it maybe twice and I've forgotten it.

I learned STH at one time. Ditto the intro to "Roundabout". Never learned Blackbird but always prefered the Rankin cover to the original. When I was of the age that would have played STH in a guitar store, I played "Anji".

Puff the Magic Dragon. Anyone? Anyone? That's the song I get the most requests for, so I do it. The song everyone loves to hate and sings it anyway. The songs this thread is about came long after me.

I like to test out a guitar with this old chestnut... That's just a masterful bit of singing.
