For the longest time I believed "Hound Dog" to be an old African-American blues song that had been hijacked by Elvis Presley. Of course it turns out that, while it is a proper 12-bar blues with the blues verse structure (A-A-B), it was written by a Jewish kid from Baltimore. Along with many other early rock 'n' roll classics.
