No, not the secret of the universe, but, how to upload pictures. So, here's my bragging about my daughter in band photo's, Band Gloves Practise Getting serious about the performance. Kelly doesn't like this one but I'm posting it anyway. Parents are so embarrassing.

Great pics Ken. She's a beaut. The kid in the 2nd row looks like Data from Star Trek.

Great pics. So tell the other proud band parents (if you don't mind the slight invasion of privacy) What school does she march for? Are they heading for any competition this marching season.

They are the Springstead High School Eagle Brigade. They placed second in the state band competition last year and are already qualified for the tournament this year. They've been busting their tails since mid-summer and we've got another month and a half to go. The state championship is on November 18th. For after that she's started working on Mozart's French Horn Concerto #3 so she can qualify for the state individual competions in February. Lot's of horn music as well as guitar music going on in my house.

I know what you mean. My son is an alto sax player. He marches for the Lassiter High School Marching Trojan Band in Marietta Ga. They are two time Bands of America Grand National Champions (1998 and 2002). They are heading to St. Louis in 3 weeks for the BOA Regionals competition.
After marching season is over he will be trying out for All State Honor Band and performing 2nd chair in the Symphonic Band.
My daughter marches for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Marching Band. She is in her third year at GT.

So what is the weather like where you are? It is still in the mid 90's here. I'm trying to imagine marching in Florida. YIKES!
Oh, what does she play during concert season? French Horn?

Good on your kids McCoy. Kelly already says she wants to go to a college with a good band so, we'll see how it all plays out. She's a freshman at Springstead so we've got a way to go.

The games are at night Tramp and yeah, she plays French Horn for concert band. We keep lot's of gatorade for the practise sessions during band camp and the day sessions.

Cool ken - and I know all about embarassing parents (both ways....) just my .02 - belmont does not have a marching band, but BU students can march with VANDERBILT (and watch them lose, too!) J

J, there's a program that allowed us to pay her tuition for the Florida University system and we did that when she started school. It's a good deal cause we paid the tuition fee that was in place at that time, when she was in kindergarden. Plus if she keeps her grades up she can qualify for a Florida bright futures scholarship in addition to the tuition we paid. We can use that for books and room and board. So, we're thinking maybe UF or FSU but that's a long way down the road.

I think Cameron wins the prize for toughest marching weather for sure. Here in ATL the fall weather is upon us and the evening practices are cool. Summer Band camp is always hot, so is the first month of school. But now the seasons are changing and it's great weather for High School football.
J- Georgia Tech does the same thing. At Georgia State, just down the road they have a great School of Music but no marching band, so anyone who wants to march can cross enroll and march with the Yellow Jackets.

Ken, that's completely understandable. I work for admissions so I'm in "Come to Belmont" mode all the time.

Ken, this is wonderful. I remember the night not so long ago that we were all wringing our paws. I'm so happy to see your beautiful daughter with such a happy smile.
Music is a wonderful thing.
J, she's too young. Just too young. Are you listening to me?

Dang, Ken, have you got a cute daughter. Too young for J, but she is cute.
I was in marching band, my last two years in high school and first two years in college, and I pretty much forgot about it until reminders started floating in from parents on the forum who spoke about it. McCoy, Tramp, Ken, it's great to be reminded of the memories. And when they get to college, they'll have friends, and have a comfortable place to be. That's important.

Todd, it was a big advantage for her to go to the summer practises and band camp. She started school as a freshmen already having a good number of friends.
Johnne, we'll can call it the Florijam V.
