Good morning. The combination of aspirin, Scotch and a hot bath has fixed my back pain but I think I'll give it a day before trying golf. Besides, it's cold outside!!! Tomorrow is supposed to be warmer and Sunday is looking promising for the first round of 2012. Will probably un-decorate the tree today.

Good morning. It is really the 29th today? Of December? Wasn't it just June a couple of days ago??

Two things:
Just read "The Long Walk", an account by a Pole of his escape from a Soviet Gulag in Siberia with 5 others, plus one they picked pup along the way, and their 4000+ miles walk through Siberia in winter, the Gobi desert and Tibet and the Himalayas. Incredible account.
The grad school application process has become positively maddening. If you're applying to multiple schools (Christine has 11 or 12 on tap), insanity looms.

Good morning. Speaking of interesting books, I recently read Boomerang and then The Big Short, both by Michael Lewis. He explains the economic crash and various countries' economic problems in ways that are comprehensible and lack any ideological filter.

He explains the economic crash and various countries' economic problems in ways that are comprehensible and lack any ideological filter. I just finished a couple of great books: "Priceless" about a real-life FBI agent who solved many high-profile art theft cases, and "In the Garden of the Beasts," about the ambassador sent to Germany in 1933 amid Hitler's rise to power, and he and family's experiences as they grapple with it all.

Good Morning Good People Cloudy, cold, and non-snowy. Missed yesterday's SoundHole festivities due to becoming deathly ill Tuesday night and spending yesterday in a semi-comatose state. Back to normal this morning. Spent a couple hours in the hallowed halls of Elderly Instruments on Tuesday. Rather crowded and crazy, so I didn't trouble the staff to let me play the Blanchard Tamarack, which is hidden somewhere in the vaults. Spent some quality time with a Goodall OM and discussed the Glories of Goodall with another customer. The Belle of the Ball was a Martin OM-28 Marquis: www.elderly.com/new_instruments/items/OM28MQ.htmI don't know if the Adirondack top is magical, but it is a magical instrument. Rich, balanced, lotsa depth, and all the other good adjectives. Not a hint of toasted wheat but it sure is sweet. Also spent some time in the openback banjo corner, but it's hard to appreciate the sweet plunky tones when there is a bluegrass banjo player on one side and a bluegrass dobro player on the other. Wandering about the house this morning gathering the energy to tackle the garage. Gotta move an antique canoe and other cottage stuff to make room for a car and to reconnect the troublesome garage door opener. Have a melodious Thursday one and all.

Mornin'.....
Up. Been up. Just finding my way back down to the music room. Hard to get past the pup. Barb and Shay came home yesterday with the new pup, as of yet unnamed. A little brownish male Malshi.....Maltese/Shih Tzu). Totally over endowed with "cute". Just barely 8 weeks old, it has already been seen humping a pillow on the living room floor. Oh boy.....her we go. ;D
Photos when they become available.

Warming up the oven to try that beer bread recipe in a bit. It will accompany split pea soup that I made overnight in the crockpot with the Christmas Day ham bone. Enjoy your days folks.

Good afternoon, forumites. There's snow on the ground but we're headed for rain in the next few days. It was cold as all begeezus yesterday.
Hope you are all enjoying your Christmas breaks. I'm ready for the New Year by now.
