Yes, I did. I'm one of those people that's good with faces, bad at names. Although I wouldn't recognize their faces, either.

Nice guitar, Doc, but what's up with that pickguard? It looks kind of flat and dingy. I even think I see a bit of a curl along the edge.

Congrats LJ! You are fortunate to get your arms around a sister of Bill's beloved Mizz Martina, the sweetest mahogany-topped guitar I have ever met.
Mr Hammond is indeed an influential person.

Wow.....first thing I thought of when I saw it was Mizz Martina. I remember well how she sounded and played.
Bring it to IJ, LJ.....and CONGRATS!

That is the super protector film thing that I paid extra for at Bill's suggestion. He said it would keep my pickguard looking bright and shiny forever under the dull, filmy, protective top. That makes sense, right??

When I traded my OM28 for my HD28, the guy who owned the HD28 had owned and played it for a couple of years. When describing it via email, he said "It's in what I would call 'mint' condition, with just a few light fingernail scratchings on the pickguard."
When I received the HD28, those "light fingernail scratchings" were in the protective film that he had never removed from the pickguard. I am not making this up.

I had forgotten that, John, but now I remember how surprised we both were. You did leave it on , though, right? If you took it off, the guitar was no longer original and would have been worth much less.

Same thing happened to me, only I was the guy who didn't realize there was a removable plastic film on the pickguard. I had the guitar about a year when I noticed that part of the pickguard was peeling off.
"What the hell?" I thought, this shouldn't be happening to a nearly new guitar. I started picking at the loose corner, and, it was another day of learning.
Had the same thing happen with a tuner and a DVD player.

The scale length and nut width of these Martins are the same as my Goodall -- so it makes for EZ switching back and forth.

LJ, congrats, but. I have spent the last day or so looking at the guitar with some special software that I have, and, it looks like the wood is dried out to the point of failure.
The only solution that I can see, is to send the guitar somewhere humid to recover. Lucky for you that I live in Portland and am willing to help. PM me for my address, and in a couple of years, you should be able to take the guitar back. Maybe.

Thanks, Mike. Thank God you have such a sharp eye. I will get it packaged up and ready to go out to you tomorrow. You figure two years?
