Took delivery just about 20 minutes ago on the Podium Custom 000 slothead. Gorgeous, beautifully set up, sounds great, looks great and says it wants to stay here with me because it likes the house. I plan on playing it for about 40 hours straight but I am confident I have a real keeper here. Thanks Bill, Marty and Frank for all the help and advice. I told my wife on Sunday I would buy it if I could sell my mandolin. I listed my mandolin on Mandolin Cafe and it sold in 20 minutes. I figured if God and Bill Hammond wanted me to have this, who was I to argue?? The protective piece is still on the pickguard which is why it is not shining like the sun, too. Long live the Podium!!    |

I envision a little Mahogany Slothead Guitar Orchestra gathering someday. Great score, LJ, she is a beauty! (Although mine, as we have agreed, is certainly better!  ) And I got an e-mail today from John Goldbach -- he sold a couple of Taylors and bought an all-mahog 000 Martin after digging mine when I bunked with him and his family last year! (His is a peghead, though ... ) |

Is that a twelve fret? I played a Martin twelve fret and fell in love. Especially since I only use three frets, occasionally seven.

Yes, it is a 12-fretter, Todd, and that configuration with the 000 shape and a gloss finish is not available outside the Martin Custom shop. Podium, in settng up these special anniversary models, also was able to specify the reddish stain vs. the typical brownish one that this model would normally have, plus bone nut and saddle. There is also a neck bolt in addition to the normal mortise joint, so the guitar is super-tight and resonant. Even the decal rosette that normally looks a bit cheap on this model looks nice with the gloss finish and amid the reddish stain of the surrounding mahogany, which BTW is first-grade stuff. I just can't believe what a bargain these things are for the money, and that they are indeed custom, hand-made guitars that number in the fews as a result of this collaboration between Podium and Martin. I get no commission for all this braggery, but I just think these instruments are amazing, and I cannot recommend them too highly. |

Jim Hutton, if you remember him from Ijam, is the guy who has the 12-fret slot-head Martin I played about 7 years ago. Would five years ago fit into the genre of TKennedy's guitar, or would that be something else?
