I have a Carvin 100D acoustic amp that I like. It is bigger and heavier than I like for use around the house. I would like to get a smaller, decent amp that would sound good and not set me back a ton of money. The Carvin has a 12 inch speaker in it and I was hoping I could find something with a much smaller speaker--maybe a 6 inch or so.
Can any of you recommend something to me? I am not sure what to look for and I don't want to get something that I am going to wish I had never bought. Ideas? If you could provide a link, too, that would be greatly appreciated.

I have an AER Compact 60 that is a great little amp and can fill a pretty good sized room. Expensive, but very portable and has a wonderful acoustic sound and two channels and phantom power. I also have a Roland Cube 60 I got on Ebay that I use for my archtop. Cheap and has a good jazz sound.

I also have a Carvin, but it's the "portable" PA. Looks like it weighs about the same as the 100D acoustic amp. So I was interested in the answers, but some of them are in the same size range and weight range as the PA that I already have. I have a small POS practice amp that produces barely acceptable sound. I like Rob's Crate 15 suggestion. Not tiny, but a lot easier to move around than the Carvin PA or the amp that started this thread. It also has a nice stand. I used to be willing to carry my PA from one room to another for in-home use. Lately I've been putting it on a cart just to move it across the music room.
Damn. I didn't know I was in the market for another amp.

I was in the Guitar Center today waiting while Kim was shopping next door, and saw a Roland amp for $139 that had two inputs, one for guitar and one for a mic.
Since you can actually play, drlj, I'm assuming it wouldn't suit your needs, but it sure intrigued me.

I really like the Carvin, but I am looking for something small and easily carried about for use at home. It does not have to have all the features of the Carvin. Thanks for all the great suggestions. I will start checking some of them out.

I got a Schertler David from Stars Guitars at an I-Jam a few years ago. A little pricey. But very nice and compact. Only weighs 20 pounds. Comes with a gig back and shoulder strap. elderly.com/new_instruments/items/DAVID.htm

I remember that Schertler. Wonderfully pure and natural sound, that.

I remember that Schertler. Wonderfully pure and natural sound, that. I was seriously in danger of buying a guitar and an amp. I churned it over in my head and decided I really did need an amp. More than I wanted to spend. But it's really very nice. It was $900 at Starz back then. They had a nice little Morris guitar there that sounded great acoustic and plugged in. Great neck. For about $2.2k. That was before the great market crash. Still made me squirm and cringe at the time.

LJ,
I was going to recommend the LR Baggs Acoustic reference amp, but when I looked around to see if anybody carried them, I could only find a used one at Musician's Friend. So they must have stopped making them. Too bad....I really like mine and they are only 28lbs, 2 channels, and really pristine sound. I guess they never caught on....probably because of price compared to the competition. It's probably more than you wanted to pay anyway.

I found it listed at at a couple of places, Paul. Strings and Beyond is one of them. It is more than I want to pay, even though it looks great.

Call Podium on Monday, talk to Frank, see what they have. I know they had a used Ultrasound (my fave acoustic brand, have used them for more than a decade) and a little AER Cube, which might be just the ticket. We all play like Tommy Emmanuel, so why shouldn't we use AER like he does?
