223. 2 inches or so of wet snow fell yesterday. Claire's resonse? "Dad, you are SO lucky." It must be all relative. I'm apparently on the short list to become the next chief of staff to our two star. So much for flying under the RADAR. There is still a chance he'll pick the other guy, especially after I explained that I have to get out of here in May if selected for school, and also reminded the incumbant I am taking mid-tour in January for a few weeks. We'll see. It's shortly after 9 pm somewhere, so I feel compelled to post this now.

Paul, I'm happy for you, but you really must factor in access time to the Forum. Would you have more or less? Frazer Private., Royal Welsh Re-fuseliers and Deserters (Regimental motto - "He who fights and runs away.... has to catch up with the guys who ran away before the fight even started").

Frazer, as for time, I'll at least be able to sneak the daily post in. As for desire, I made my lack of desire for this post clearly known the incumbent.

As for desire, I made my lack of desire for this post clearly known the incumbent. Good for you. There's too damn much achievement going on around here as it is. Out of interest, is there military jargon for that situation, or did you simply put your fingers in your throat and make retching noises at the suggestion? That's what I do every bloody year when someone suggests I be Santa at the school Christmas party (not that I'm comparing the two roles, you understand, but that probably represents the height of responsibility I'm ever likely to reach).

No jargon. The direct quote, since you are curious, was, "Carl, I'd rather shoot myself in the testicles before taking the chief of staff job, but if you need me up here, you know I won't pitch a fit."
Duty. It gets in the way of fun...

so what does the Chief of Staff job entail? What are the duties and where would it be done? Does it mean you are still a Kernel or is it a promotion or does it mean you are just someone's head ass kicker and name taker but the other guy gets all the credit? Pardon my absolutel and complete ignorance of all things military here. Why is this a job you don't want vs. which job DO you want? Does this in any way pave the way to moving up even higher or are you tied to the 2-star for life like a marriage?

Tramp, A chief of staff is the headquarters cat herder. The staff reports to the chief, and the chief transmits guidance to them from the Boss. The chief also works with the subordinate units to do the same, and head off issues before they become problems. I'm in an operations job now - more interesting and less paperwork. This is one of those "lateral appointments." Not a promotion and no more pay. Just more ass aches. Should hear back soon...

Heavy fog for the second day in a row here but we're headed for a sunny stretch in the 50's for a few days.

Good morning. Paul, I hope you get to get out of there early for that school.
Mid-December and 60 degrees out. The dense fog we had yesterday seems to be gone this morning. I think I hear my golf clubs calling.

223.2 inches of snow. That's amazing. We've got a storm moving in for tomorrow night into Thursday with snow in the 5 to8 inch range, something I could live without.

Paul, as always you know we only wish the best for you. Which would be, an end of this damn war and your safe return to your family.
Morning all. It snowed in Portland. Not Much, just a dusting so far at my house (about 300 ft above sea level) and its not sticking to the roads but it is pretty on the grass.

Let us all commit to #26Acts of Kindness. (google it... you'll find it) In loving memory of the victims of Sandy Hook, CT.
For my first almost act of kindness, I sent up a prayer that Paul won't have to 'herd cats'

Good morning.
223 inches of snow, that's over 18 feet.
Here in Ohio, it's a gloomy day, but the rain is over and I'm waiting for the sun to come out. Sort of like the mood I've been in, thinking about the Newtown shooting.
